Guest guest
Sue, What you are feeling is normal. I would go get it cut real short or even have your head shaved so you don't have to go through watching the rest fall out.. I will keep you in my prayers. I had my first chemo treatment on Jan. 3rd , 2nd one is tomorrow the 17th...I thought I was prepared, I have a wig, hats and all.. but when strands of my hair started to fall out this am.. it was very upsetting. I was hold off in getting my hair cut very short ...now I think its time. It hit me harder than I thought it would . -sue-
Guest guest
Sue, Its normal to feel what you are feeling! I found having a good cry in the shower helped me; it took a while to accept the " new me " everytime I looked in the mirror! But I'm happy to report that time is a good healer! I am comfortable with the way I look; I go with the " au natural " look at home, wear a hat when company calls, and use my wig at work in 3rd grade. While a woman's hair may be her crowning glory, I have learned that it doesn't define who we are! Shave your head and look to see how truly beautiful you are! We have been where you are, and while it's not easy, its do-able and you will be glad you've learned to look for peace of mind in new ways. God Bless you! Stay strong! You're not alone! ann > > I had my first chemo treatment on Jan. 3rd , 2nd one is tomorrow the > 17th...I thought I was prepared, I have a wig, hats and all.. but when > strands of my hair started to fall out this am.. it was very > upsetting. Guest guest
Hi, thank you everyone-I had my cry and I feel better now , I went out to lunch with a friend and did some shopping after- I plan on calling my hairdresser and have it cut sometime later this week- I have chemo tomorrow and not sure how I am going to feel - so play it by ear . I have thick curly hair now- and all I read is for those who had straight hair it all came back in thick and curly -so it will be interesting to see if mine comes in more thicker and curlier OR even straight-(LOL) take care -sue- > > > > I had my first chemo treatment on Jan. 3rd , 2nd one is tomorrow the > > 17th...I thought I was prepared, I have a wig, hats and all.. but > when > > strands of my hair started to fall out this am.. it was very > > upsetting. Guest guest
Note: forwarded message attached. After the first chemo about 10-12 days my hair started falling out and then I had my hair shaved by my hairdresser and already had a wig which she helped me pick out at a shop at the farmers market...My hair was straight and almost a year later it came back in curley and then went to wavey and back to almost straight just a little darker brown...and is over 3 yrs now came in almost as thick as before. Guest guest
HUGS Sue. Yes, about everyone I talk to and myself included seem to have the hardest time with the hair. You have my heart felt sympathies because I know the feeling all to well. I really thought I was prepared, I had cut my hair into a medium length layered cut and was going to get it shaved when it started coming out. I decided to take a nice hot bath one day and when I stood up to get out of the tub there was hair all over the surface of the water. I just started to sob, I mean really sob. That was nearly 4 months ago. I had it shaved 3 days later. I've come to grips with it but I still miss my hair the most, even more than my breast. How weird is that? MAJOR BIG HUGS!!! Many of us have been there, done that. :,-( LICS June "The best protection any woman can have...is courage." Guest guest
I went and got my hair cut short but not real short. About two weeks to the day after my first chemo started I was in the shower and looked down at my belly and there was a blob of hair. I just bawled. I never lost all of my hair but enough that I looked kind of like Pigpen from The Peanuts. I finally shaved it all off. The hair that didn't fall out is still growing so I have to shave my head again because it is prickly under my caps.
Guest guest
Another thing about losing the hair is that it made the breast cancer real for me. I had a lumpectomy so I didn't have the reality of a missing breast. Sure I had surgery, scars, problems related to the incisions, chemo that made me feel crappy, but the reality did not set in until the hair started to go. I think that is what gets a lot of women. You can't deny it any more.
Guest guest
Hi, Maybe you should think of the fact that it's only temporary. Not every chemo let's your hair fall out. i am on taxotere now and my hair starts to grow back ! For me it was also very heavy to see my hair fall out, I got very nervous. At a certain point I shaved all and started wearing these hats and my wig, it was a relieve to take it al off. But it did take some time to do it, take your time.
