I would think (I know, thats a stretch, lol) there just might be a little wiggle-room... remember that Dr. Amstutz implanted Wagner and McMinn m/m surfjobs in many folks during his early studies of modern resurfacing. These devises > were not approved in any country at that time. I would think that it may be possible for a US surgeon to implant a thr femoral component compatible with a well fixed BHR socket under a similar exception??... perhaps, maybe?? There is probably some kind of exceptions for research. There is a difference between research and the approval of a new device, and I'm sure the licensing of the physician/hospital/product is different for that type of situation. And remember, his early studies were decades ago, when I don't believe we were as litiginous a society as we are now. The cost of insurance is so prohibitive, I can't imagine that anyone is going to jeopardize their rates/coverage doing something like you suggested. Believe me, insurance is NOT a fun place to be working right now!!!! I was just stating my opinion FWIW. In re-reading my post, I should have made it more clear that I was guessing--sorry if I mislead anyone. Just my guesses/musings.
