Guest guest
This is from CA. Is anybody here from PA, and if so, does anybody know anybody who has a child at the WPSD? We are strongly considering a move from CA to PA which is a life altering decision as I planned to stay here my entire life. I have heard great things about this school, but if anybody knows anybody I would love to know their/your experience! Thanks, >

Guest guest
Dear , I'm not sure exactly where you are thinking of moving to, but would eastern Ohio be a possibility? There is an excellent deaf ed program in Trumbull County Ohio (just east of the PA line). The high school kids recently won 4th place in a Mid-West Academic contest sponsored by Galludet, competing with residential schools from all over. There is also a residential school in Columbus that has a good reputation. We live in the middle of Trumbull County (about 20 miles from the PA line). From here we are equidistant (70 mile) from Cleveland and Pittsburgh. Good luck, Pat

Guest guest
Pat we're looking at settling in the mechanicsburg/harrisburg area. There is even an ASL club for hearing kids! Then H. would go to school in Pittsburg and come home on the weekends. I have separation anxiety just thinking of it, as I spend a lot of time with her during the week. This school looks great from the bottom up and the fact that they have kids with CIs who sign also, is awesome to me. thanks mary > >Reply-To: Listen-Up >To: <Listen-Up > >Subject: Re: Western PA school for the deaf >Date: Wed, 21 Jul 2004 13:02:23 -0400 > >Dear , > >I'm not sure exactly where you are thinking of moving to, but would eastern >Ohio be a possibility? Guest guest
, My cousin lives in Middletown. She used to live in Mechanicsburg. She is a teacher in a one of the local vo-tech schools. She has taught many deaf students over the years. Several of her students have gone on to NTID at RPI. I will ask her about the local deaf education opportunities. My family is from Scranton, where the other residential school is located and we know several people who work there. I have heard that the Scranton school is also excellent. Would Scranton be closer to burg than Pittsburgh? Guest guest
Hi Pat, I don't know which one is closer. Hayley would be a residential student. I didn't even know what VOTECH was until we visited there a couple weeks ago; I think they call it something different out here. For some reason a lot of the kids from Central PA go to WPSD, so if we moved there that is where H. would go. We already visited the special day classes a couple years ago and it would be the same as we have here. Any info you have on the residentials would be great! Thanks >My cousin lives in Middletown. Scranton is only 2 hours from burg - I'm not sure how much further Pittsburgh is but it is further than that... Barbara

Guest guest
I think its further (Pittsburg) but the central PA/burg kids go there. If she is going to be a residential student, then she might as well go with the kids who live in the area. Also, my husband said if this move DOES happen then we will visit my family in Massachusetts sometimes, so then we WOULD meet. We're going to visit soon. I do not want to move, though, without guaranteed admission. Thanks >>Scranton is only 2 hours from burg - I'm not sure how much further >Pittsburgh is but it is further than that...
