Guest guest
Crystal - There are many options... but many of them depend on what is available from your local regional center (I don't even know if that's what they are called where you live?!) and your county infant program. OT/PT people might be able to lend you equipment... for instance, a " Tumble Form " chair. This is a soft, easy to clean positioning chair that has a wedge base that allows the child to be positioned sitting straight up, or reclined at various degrees. It can be used for sitting, feeding, etc. OR... Your OT and/or PT might be willing to write a recommendation/evaluation for Eva to have one purchased for her rather than borrowing it. Our daughter loved hers... and although it was purchased specifically for her by our regional center, we did give it back to them when she outgrew it so that they could pass it on to someone else... otherwise, I would send it your way! :-) We now have a Kid Kart for Gracie which is an adaptive stroller/wheelchair. She LOVES it much better than her strollers. It gives her proper positioning so she can really be engaged in her environment. It has a stroller base and a base for inside that can be raised and lowered. This allows her to be low to the ground with other kids or up at the dinner table. It's great. The seat part is adjustable - - The back can be adjusted to lay all the way down (tilted), it can be reclined, there are so many things that you can do with it to keep your child comfy and in good position. Your OT will know whether this is something that would be appropriate for Eva... You can check out www.adaptivemall.com - - that is a great equipment website... special seating is expensive... so make sure you talk to your OT and regional center. Guest guest
Our OT lent us several different " seats " for feeding...and they work great. Perhaps ask them if they have anything? They didn't offer them up until I asked and then it was like we got everything, so you never know until you ask! Good luck! How is Eva doing post op at home? supermama95 wrote: Eva is at the weight and height where she is out growing her bouncy seat and her car seat. I put her in herseats for feeding so she is in an inclined postion and sometimes she sleeps in them while she feeds but she is getting to big for them. Does anyone have any idea on what else I can use that had good head control? I would use her highchair but she sleeps in it and that would not be good and her head control is not that great yet. Guest guest
Hi Crystal, Raegan likes to have her tube feeds in the Fisher Price Infant to Toddler Rocker. I purchased it at Target, but I know that Babies R Us and Toys R Us have it as well. It cost between $30 and $40 and it is for infants up to 40 pounds. I love this chair and so does my 3 year old, who weighs 30 lbs so she can sit in it also. Raegan loves it too, she falls asleep in it all the time. Hope this helped. Glad to hear Eva is doing well since her surgery. Judy supermama95 wrote: Eva is at the weight and height where she is out growing her bouncy seat and her car seat. Guest guest
Crystal I never have to worry about what equipment is next, because thats my OT's problem, do you not have an OT?? they are supposed to check our children every couple of weeks, and then they take things from there, for example, Amelie has a hydraulic chair for sitting in, and every couple of months she re measures her hip and thigh area and modifies the chair accordingly, same for my car seat, bathing aids etc, the only thing we are waiting on is a special cot, hydraulic with tilt for reflux, but because at the moment we have no bedroom for Amelie, we have to manage with the cot situation, but otherwise our OT has been excellent. good luck with Eva, Amelie weighed 12.46kg on the ward this week we were really pleased considering she has diarrohea with her jejunum feeds. love Les and Chanettes x > Eva is at the weight and height where she is out growing her bouncy > seat and her car seat. Guest guest
Crystal, I have a Fisher Price chair that has been invaluable to use with Makenna. It is a metal framed chair with a cloth cover that can be removed. It is like a rocking chair but has a kick stand to recline and immobilize it for infants. It also has a battery compartment and can vibrate. We have had this since Makenna was born. We got it in the baby department at Walmart or you could look at babys r us. It is very sturdy Makenna still uses it at age 5 (as a rocker now). Her 8 year old cousin has even been in it. We used it constantly when she was on continous feeds and then as we moved her to bolus. It also has a strap that goes between their legs and hooks on either side of their belly, which is nice when they don't understand they have to be still for tube feedings:) I love this chair!!! Hope this helps. , mom to Makenna 5 > > Eva is at the weight and height where she is out growing her bouncy > seat and her car seat. Guest guest
Oops, I didn't read ahead. Sounds like the same fischer price infant to toddler chair everyone else was talking about. Guest guest
Crystal - When Ethan was young, we used the Tumble Form chair and now that he is older, we now sit him in a Wombat chair. Both were purchased for us through EI. I think now they have a lending system for things you may not need for long. Call your EI Coordinator or talk to your PT. They should be able to get you through the process so that you can get what Eva needs.
