Darby was at Camp Isola Bella, which is run by the American School for

the Deaf. I picked her up yesterday and she had a great time. She was quite

nervous about going since her signing is not fluent but she's already talking

about next year. She had no problems with communication; there was a mix of

hearing and deaf staff, and they were aware of her limited signing skills and

always

had someone available to translate if needed. I was talking with one of the

counselors who told me she and a couple other of the staff had been raised

orally, mainstreamed all through school and learned sign by attending the camp

as

kids. Darby's motivation wasn't to learn sign but to have fun which she did,

but also she's picked up quite a bit of sign.

How great! Where is this camp located? I think as Ben gets older, these are

the kinds of opportunities I want him to be aware of.

I'm so glad Darby had a good time!
