You may find this thread interesting. Also Lyme disease is commonly seronegative, just as mycoplasms are. kathy

What scares me though is that my mom asked me what was wrong with my fingers? When I looked down, I noticed that 2 of my fingers (both Index fingers) are turned inward......Lyme disease test was negative, RA factor was neg. but doc feels that's what I have had for 3 years because of the high sed. rate and classic symptoms. He does not do mycoplasma testing and said that often you can have it and still test negative.

After investigating Lyme for some time I noted that a number of Lyme

patients report inward curling of the fingers - some describe it as a

" claw " type symptom.

I have not seen this documented. Can readers confirm - or otherwise -

that this is seen in Lyme disease.

Thankyou

absolutely. I experinced much hand curling together with other late stage

neurological problems. Peculiar gait at times needed a wheelchair other times.

Much neurological work-up found nothing.

Dear Dr. Barr,

I experienced this symptom. My little finger on my right hand would curl

and cramp.

I had difficulty keeping it straight. I actually taped a splint to my

finger at one point to keep it straight and the mucles from cramping. I

had also developed drop foot at this same time. These symptoms developed

while I was being treated with 400mg of Doxy and 600mg of Zithromax. I

had been on these doses for several months when this problem developed.

One point of interest is that I substituted 1000mg Biaxin for the Zithro

and these symptoms were greatly reduced in one weeks time. I continued on

the Biaxin and Doxy for 7 months more. My symptoms would still flare at

times, but were greatly attenuated. On July 20, I substituted Flagyl for

the Doxy. This decision was made in part based upon your writtings. At

this time my symptoms are barely noticeable and I am doing better than I

have since my illness started. I have minor neuropathies, minor tinitus

and minor vision problems. These symptoms seem to be disapating on a

weekly baisis. I am actually at the point where I am considering at what

point in the future I will try to wean myself off of these meds.

Thank you for your all of your assistance.

Please contact me if I can provide any additional information.

Regards,

Bob Levine

I have this problem with my fingers and toes. I know of one woman that was

diagnosed with DuPuytren's contracture and was later found to have Lyme disease

instead of Dupuytren's contracture.

I think it makes sense that this would be a problem since Lyme persists in

ligamentous tissue.

Yes, I had hand curl as one of many neurological symptoms during a 17 year

battle with Lyme. At times, there was almost total hand paralysis, in that my

husband often had to manually uncurl my fingers to straighten them out and they

were able to only functional minimally. This frequently happened after if I

had been grasping a small object and the hand appeared to " freeze " in that

position. The symptom resolved as the Lyme became better controlled. I am curious about the connection between this Lyme symptom and a nearly

identical symptom associated with " hyperkalemia/hypokalemia with periodic

paralysis. " I was tentatively diagnosed as having " non-genetic hyperkalemia

with periodic paralysis " associated with Lyme-induced adrenal exhaustion. I

frequented the Hyper/Hypokalemia News group and the participants often

described what sounded like this symptom. If I get stressed, or the Lyme gets

out of control, the symptom returns. Melody

Dear Dr. Atkinson~

I have had lyme undiagnosed for many years. Finally dx'd last year. This is definitely a symptom for me but comes and goes. Fearful when it

comes. I think it will stay that way.

Thanks for all of your great contributions here.
