Congratulations on going to part time. When we asked Dr. Weinstein

about shoes when Jakob needed them, he said to get whatever fit well.

We have always bought Jakob's shoes at Target or most often Payless.

Personally, I don't think I would get shoes that Caleb could wear on or

off the bar. I think the consistency of having 1 set of shoes be

specifically for the brace and 1 (or more) pair be for wearing when he

isn't in the brace. Of course, this is just my opinion.

Jakob also has bilateral and his feet are slightly different sizes. His

left is slightly longer and thinner, but the difference isn't enough for

us to buy different sizes for each foot.

Hi ,

We bought stride rite for as a first pair of shoes. Her feet have

always been really small up until recently (she will 2 in 10 more days!) I

think that for , being out of shoes as much as possible really helped

her gain strength in her feet although I know some parents have said the

opposite for their children, they felt that being in shoes as much as

possible was better. Dr. Ponseti said that any shoe was fine as long as it

was'nt too stiff or unflexible.

As for the difference in foot size, 's are the same size but her calf

muscles are a little different in each leg. I think it just depends on each

individual child.

  • 9 months later...

As I've been working on my gate, I try to figure out whatever may be

affecting my walk. One of the things that I've been trying to use to

gage the evenness of it is the sound made by each foot as it contacts

the ground. I'd try and try different ways of walking and no matter

what I tried, they sounded different. It made me think that I was

still limping. I finally looked at the bottoms of the sneakers that

I've been wearing for the last year or two and I discovered that the

sole of the left shoe ( " good leg " ) was worn down much further than

the right! I changed shoes and voila! They sound the same now. I tell

ya the devil is in the details. ;-)

Best regards,

Somebody else (?), suggested that all new hippy's should get rid of

all their old shoes and start fresh. Since I had lifts in most of my shoes

pre-op, it was easy for me-I couldn't wear any of my old shoes since my

legs are now the same length. I've worn a couple of my old pairs of shoes,

and they do feel really strange!
