Guest guest
I wish!! I've been looking for ANY paramedic refresher course so that I can get my NR (I'm an old school grandfathered in). The only way I can sit for the NR test is to do a 40 hour refresher course. If anyone knows of a refresher course around Houston I'd be greatful for the info. > > Does anyone know of any state-approved online paramedic refresher > courses currently being offered? > > Thanks. >
Guest guest
I just went through the reentry process after having my Texas Medic Certification inactive for 10 years. When I started trying to piece together what I had to do to get back, I was told that I had to do a live, DSHS-approved Paramedic Recert Course. The course had to include skills instruction and testing. I took a 3 month, 96 hour course at our local Junior College. After completing that program, I was able to apply to sit for my EMT-P exam. I took my test last night and should know how it turned out in 2 or 3 weeks. All of this recert/reentry stuff is pretty fresh on my mind, so if I can help let me know. Todd, B.S., J.D. Guest guest
You probably agree that the practive of law ain't what it used to be. I've never been the sharpest guy. I went from racing ambulances to chasing ambulances; finally caught one, then hurried and got my cert back so that I could get an adrenaline fix. I hear that other lawyers make money off of ambulances without getting puked on or spit at. How boring! Guest guest
Actually, this is a good idea. To recertify our emergency medicine boards, we have to complete several on-line modules. These are fairly lengthy and require a lot of journal reading. You still have to brush up on areas not covered before you write the recertification exam. So, why can't paramedics do the same? There is an organization in Massachusetts that has taken several of my lectures and turned them into on-line CE (http://www.mediced.com <http://www.mediced.com/> ). I provided the slides for free and have no financial interest in the company. They are fairly inexpensive so I donated my stuff. There may be other companies doing this. It would be nice to have something Texas-based. The program should specifically address refresher while addressing some new material to bring the student up to date. I could arrange for permission to use some of the Brady materials of needed. I am not volunteering for the work, just offering the idea. My plate is full enough right now. Guest guest
I probably have 10 business cards of EMS people who old JD degrees. All seemed to enter law after college and all found EMS their true calling. Some dabble in both, some left law full-time, some left law altogether. I have always thought that they are quite a resource and would be good chapter authors for an EMS law book or would have some advisory role like Jim Pages Street Medicine Society has done for physicians. Many, though, would prefer to stay away from legal issues altogether.
