My name is Amber and I live in Pennsylvania. I found this group last

night out of desperation. I need some advice - not for myself, but

for my Mother. I love my Mom very much (as I'm sure we all love our

parents) and I need some guidence from someone who may be in the same

situation as my Mom.

My Mom was diagnosed with Colon Cancer back in 1987. Over the years,

she's had two surgeries and is now left with only about 4 or 5 inches

of her colon now. The cancer is gone (yay) but I forsee another

problem now. I can't speak from experience, but sympathize with my

Mom and anyone else that has to deal with only having a little bit of

Colon left. She's dealt with it for many years (frequent trips to

the bathroom). It has become a burden for her lately - my parents

are retired and love to travel. She takes medication to help slow

down the process, but it seems to me that she's in the bathroom right

after she eats anything. My Mom has now decided to take matters into

her own hands. She has decided to practically stop eating!! I can

fully understand her reasons for this, but she has dropped 30

something pounds over the past 6 months. When she goes to the family

Dr. they seem to not even acknowledge her weight loss. How can that

be? She's 60 something years old, she does NOT need to be dieting.

She looks horrible and I'm so worried about her.

My main question is this: Where do I go? It's not really a cancer

issue anymore - the cancer is gone. It's kind of an eating disorder

but due to the fact of her colon situation. Yikes, I'm so lost. I

haven't approched her yet - I don't want to sound like I know what's

best for her, but I want her to know how worried I am about her. My

Dad is concerned too. He, too, doesn't know which Dr. to talk to

about this.

Has anyone else out there gone through something similiar? Or know

of anyone? I would appreciate any advice. You can email me

privately to keep from clogging up this mail list if you want.
