Guest guest
WOULD YOU SAY IF ONE IS SLIGHTLY CONSTIPATED, THAT LOW POTASSIUM COULDNT BE A CONCERN? Subject: Re: Does anyone else have these symptoms? To: RT3_T3 Date: Wednesday, December 30, 2009, 7:10 AM Well I started wiht OTC potassium which did nothing even at 15 tabs a day. SO I went ot prescription slow release and began feeling better. I started at 1500mg a day and did labs at 2 weeks, no change so I double it.. and I kept raising and retesting every 2 weeks and finally at 100Meq (7500mg) a day my sympotoms are gone, including the fluid reteniton I battled for almost 20 years and Diarrhea for 15 years so I have held that dose for abotu a year now. I am just this week trying to lower it a bit. I am liek Delores thogh when I redsuce now I get leg cramps but I htink my body is just used to dumping alot of potasisum so I am sticking it out as it is expensive to have to take this much potasisum all the itme and I SHOULD not need this much every day, so we shall see if I can now reduce it to a more manageable level.-- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HypoPets/------------------------------------

Guest guest
Thanks for that very thorough answer! It also answers several other questions I was going to ask. I had a feeling it might turn out to be expensive. Have you got a cheap source for potassium supplements? I wish you good luck with your weaning. Guest guest
NO as that is vcertainly not a usual sym0ptoms of loew potasisum. In fact I am the only one i knwo of that got Diarrhea releif form taking potassium, so I do not think a sample of ONE counts. When hypo constipation isd pretty much a given, unless ther are complications usch as adrenals. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HypoPets/

Guest guest
One good way to get your potassium is with high potassium foods - it does not take much food to get your higher potassium - for example, 2 to 3 bananas (each has about 400+ mg of potassium), a glass of tomato juice has over 900 mg, etc. HIGH potassium can be just as bad an issue as LOW potassium - as my holistic doctor commented - 'no one has over died of an overdose of bananas' - and he is right. Be cautious of over the counter supplements - any kinds. I am not saying do not use them (I do in calcium, magnesium, vitamin C and taurine) but I am really trying to get some of my deficiencies addressed by the foods I eat - and potassium is one of the easiest in the way of foods. Also, I have found that a couple of bananas really help with bowel movements for those with that issue ). > > Well I started wiht OTC potassium which did nothing even at 15 tabs a > day. Guest guest
Sorry but I have heard teh SCARE stories abotu high potassium supplements till I am really not good with hearing more of it. I do nto recommend treating potassium with supps unles i see it LOW. If it is lwo oyu will not be able to raise it with FOODS. Besides that I am Diabetic. Bananas and MOST high potasisum foods are VERY high in carbs., I would like to see oyu get 7500mg a day in foods and stil eat low carb. Or even wihtout low carb! Guest guest
That is SO interesting Val! I too have suffered from Diarrhea for most of my life. This was one reason it took so long for me to get diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I can't tell you how many times I asked previous docs to be tested and they would ask if I am constipated and feel " chilly " . As I always feel hot/sweaty and have diarrhea, I was always told I COULD NOT be hhypothyroid. After going through many docs, I found one that was willing to do the testing and my thyroid panel was clearly hypothyroid and antibodies were through the roof!!!! Anyways, I will definately look into the potassium/electrolyte issue. Thanks, > > I would suggest an electrolkyte panelk and RBC potassium test. Guest guest
Hi Val! My most recent potassium lab came in at 4.2. If I were to trial some potassium, would OTC be okay and how much would you suggest. Also, how long would I trial to know if it is helping? Guest guest
I seriously would nto JUST Trial Potassium. 4.2 is a veyr normal lab for potassium., I would suggest gettting the RBC testing done. Potassium that is too high is DANGEROUS so you really need ot determine a need before taking extra., -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HypoPets/
