Guest guest
Dear Liz, I must confess I have no direct experience personally, or by means of a child, with the ketogenic diet, but the thought had crossed my mind that perhaps the fasting period is provided/suggested to allocate a period of time where the patient's body is capable of burning off any carbs remaining in his/her system. I'm simply clutching at straws here, but perhaps parents may have a different view, Best wishes, Phil Thoughts on a fasting start Hi to all, I'd just like to know if you think fasting in the begining really makes a difference as apposed to just feeding your child the meals and letting her go into ketosis that way. It seems whenever we fasted Gillian her ketones went down, we had to feed her the fat for her to burn it. Last time we fasted, her blood sugar went too low and we had to give her juice which kept her from going into a deep ketosis. I'm just wondering why our team wants to start this way again, why not just feed her the meals? Anyones opinion would be appreciated. Guest guest
Thanks for your thoughts. I've come to the conclusion not fasting is working better for Gilly. Two weeks before our start date I started Gilly at 1:1 then every three days increased .5. She's now at 2.5:1 and doing great hitting above 8 for urine ketones by bedtime without the use of mct yeah! I had to come clean with my team on Thursday, I hadn't really told them as the dietician's new and doesn't know me from the last time we did the diet and the nurse was away. I just explained my decision to do it this way was not based on what I know about our keto team (they're good and I trust them), it was based on what I know about Gillian and ultimately I know the most about her. Anyways the dietician wouldn't agree to doing it this way but she's ok with it now its done I think. Thanks again for your input and for the info on maltitol Liz
