Guest guest
I haven't had any problems with fish oil. My dosage is 2 capsules daily. Perhaps that is why no problem. Sorry that your son is suffering. Jack (NY)
Guest guest
The fish oil can cause that if he started with a high dose right off the bat. How many caps is he taking? Ask his doctor if you can ease into the dosage by starting with one or two caps daily until his body gets used to that, then adding a third and let him get used to that....and so on until you get to the number of caps he needs to be taking. It took me two months to finally work up to 6 caps daily and not have any major digestive problems. Occasionally I still get that growly, everything is moving thru my system really fast, must run to the bathroom NOW feeling about 4 hours after taking my final 3 caps for the day. My neph wasn't too concerned about it taking a few months to work up to the 6 caps. As he puts it " You got time with this disease, let your body adjust. " I also found that taking my fish oil caps around lunch helped with the stomach upset stuff. That way my morning meds were well into my system and my evening meds are 4 or more hours off...it seems to let the fish oil absorb better for some reason when I take them alone. I hope his stomach problems resolve soon. Amy Fish Oil > Did/Does Fish Oil cause diahreha? Guest guest
Hi , I take 4x1000mg of fish oil a day. It certainly causes my stomach to rumble and produces more 'gas' but I've not had diarrhoea. Perhaps you need to check it out with your doc? Fish Oil Did/Does Fish Oil cause diahreha? My son started Fish Oil last Friday night and has poured gallons of water out the back end ever since haha. He said there's no color to it and that his stomach just rumbles and squishes all day in school. Maybe he has a touch of something else, it was just weird that it started 2 days after the fish oil. If this is the Fish Oil, does your body eventually adjust to it? He's miserable!!!

Guest guest
I agree Pierre! Personally, I've not had too many problems with Fish oil myself, but then I always try to time taking them with meals to help me with it. Guest guest
The fish oil can cause that if he started with a high dose right off the bat. How many caps is he taking? Thanks for all the advice from everyone!! He's supposed to be taking 6 a day. I've cut him back to 2 and he's done fine with that. We upped it to 3 and he's doing ok with that. I'll keep him at 3 for another week and then bump him up to 4 and see how he does. Thanks alot to all of you!!!

Guest guest
You're doing the same thing I did with my son. Incremental increases were an easier sell. It took a bit of nudging, but eventually we got up to 12/day! Re: Fish Oil > > The fish oil can cause that if he started with a high dose right off the > bat. Guest guest
Hi Kim and Tasha, A very warm welcome to our group! I am sorry that Tasha has been diagnosed with IgAN. As a mother myself, I know your heart must break to know that your daughter has a chronic illness. Do you know what her creatinine level is? Normally, IgAN is a fairly benign condition. It only progresses to end stage renal failure somewhere between 30-50% of the time. I myself first became symptomatic as a teenager nearly 30 years ago. I am still not yet on dialysis, so I hope that gives you some encouragement. I felt so angry that the doctors automatically assumed she must be pregnant or have a STD! NOT all teens are sexually active for heaven's sake. I am surprised they would not take her word. As far as treatment, since she has been weaned off the Prednisone, is she currently taking anything other than fish oil? I ask because Ace inhibitors are fairly standard treatment for IgAN, and they are thought to have somewhat of a renal protective function, so you might want to ask her Nephrologist about that. Other than Ace Inhibitors, it is important for her to keep her blood pressure in check and make sure it does not get too high. Again, welcome and I hope you find a wealth of information and support here.

Guest guest
It doesn't necessarily have to be fridgerated, Dana. I do that because we buy such a large supply, I don't want to worry about it getting rancid. I wouldn't worry about it if you don't! Guest guest
Also some people have found that refrigerating it reduces the " fishy burps. " It can leave a nasty aftertaste in your mouth. If the capsules are cold when you take them, then supposedly they travel further down in your digestive track before dissolving. Now there are enteric coated fish oil caps now that probably do a better job of eliminating fish breath than refrigeration alone. (My son used to joke that cats were following him around.)
