Liz - I remember that pronunciation from my years of studying French (many

years ago!!). My French teacher pronounced Bette as Bay-tee'

Too bad there's nowhere in southern California to have practiced that French

all these years! I can remember but a little of it!

I love the German pronunciation of your name, Liz! I also like Bette. My

mother in law is a Betty, and if for some reason by some miracle we ever

had a baby, and if for some reason we felt the need to name the child

after her, I would definitely use the Bette spelling as opposed to the

Betty spelling. Somehow it looks classier. I don't know, no offense to

any " Y " Bettys out there. Maybe it's because I've always enjoyed having

a name that is different, so I've always wanted to give my child a name

that is different, but not TOO different...and of course nothing that

rhymes with a body part.
