Confusion abt when to take Iron/thyroid

I checked the links/attachments to this board...sorry if I missed this but I am

confused about when to take Iron/thyroid. It seems that you are supposed to

leave 4 hours between taking thyroid/iron and you need to take iron with food.

Does there have to be period of 4 hours both before and after thryoid ingestion

before it is optimal to take iron? Some authorities say you can take Iron one

hour after thyroid....but must wait 4 hours to take thyroid after taking iron.

If it has to be 4 hours on either end, I will have to take iron late at

night...and i don't like to eat late at night. appreciate the assistance.

Iron must be out of the stonmach before thyroid wil be absorbed

properly. SO you either take thyroid first then wait ONE hour for iron,

or you take iron first then wait fours hours to take thyroid.

I used to take all my iron with dinner, which I eat around 7 usually, as this is

generally a few hours after any thyroid I've taken.

I am not sure if it absorbs as well taking all the iron at one time, though.

Another thing I've done for years is to take Ferrochel (albion brand chelated

iron bisglycinate.) Supposedly, this stuff is chemically chelated and does NOT

ionize in the stomach and intestinal tract, thus cannot bind to medicines.

Because of the chelation, it simply passes intact through the intestinal wall

into the bloodstream. Other iron supplements have to ionize and attach to

protein molecules in order to cross into the blood sream. I believe it's during

this process that iron (or calcium for that matter) binds to thryoid meds.

So in theory iron bisglycinate should not bind to thyroid meds even if taken

together, but I still try to take it away from the thryoid meds.
