PET Scan Craziness

Hi All,

Wondering if anybody has had any not great experiences with PET

Scans. I had one done, and instead of answering any questions it

just made everybody, including my doctor, more confused - Past

biopsies, confirmed by a CAT Scan three weeks back, showed nothing

in the lungs, tumors in the liver, and a metastasis in the

perirectal area. The PET Scan shows nothing in the liver or

perirectal area but " uptake " in the left chest area. Somebody else

local also said that their PET showed nothing in a part of their

body that was not-to-later biopsied positive. I thought that PET

was the Mecca of oncology-related diagnostic imaging - was I wrong?

I really don't know what to make of it. My doctor said it was

could be good news, speculating that the tumors, while present, are

possibly not actively growing at this point, which is why they did

not light up. But he didn't know, to be honest; at any rate, he

didn't buy my suggestion that I was cured - he laughed and said he'd

see me back at chemo next Tuesday to start the third different

treatment in five months :-) - Camptosar and Erbitux. If anybody

wants to make me feel good and say that this treatment will have

fewer side effects that the 5-FU treatments of past (GI and

hand/foot syndrome problems), feel free; I'd welcome anything that

will make me look forward to next Tuesday besides being able to

crash the free lunch that I'm sure a drug rep will be putting on for

the clinic docs and nurses.

Thanks

Joe
