Guest guest
Sounds like you doctor is modifying the Ponseti method and that may be very well why he isn't on the approved list. We went to a doc that trained with Ponseti but chose to modify the DBB as well. We ended up switching doctors at that point. Guest guest
, We go to Dr.Bonar in Kansas City, Dr.Ponsetti recommended her. She did her residency with him for 3 years. She Has Isabella in her DBB for 23 hours a day for 3 months. It sounds to me like your doctor is modifying the ponsetti method and that isn't good. There are two doctors in kansas city who does the ponsetti method and that is Dr.Bonar and Dr.Jarkin. They are on ponsetti's list. I really don't know how they get on the list, i think they have to submit paperwork on their progress with the ponsetti method on their patients. Personally i would be very leary of your doctor for only putting the dbb on for 18-20 hours a day. It is very crucial that you do exactly what dr.ponsetti has instructed about clubbed feet so there isn't a relapse. Isabella did have some purplish color almost looking blue for the first few weeks in the dbb but now her feet are the right color. I would email Dr.Ponsetti about your doctor and your concerns. They always get back to you right away. If you need any info on Dr.Bonar just email me i will be glad to give it to you, she is a great doctor. Guest guest
I checked his club foot today and it is at a 70 degree angle. The other which is not club is at 45 degrees. Guest guest
Thanks for the advice. How do I contact Dr. Ponsetti? Does he do anything different for children who's feet are pretty flexible? > > My son got his DBB on Dec. 26th. Today when I gave him a bath his > > feet looked purple and almost bruised. Guest guest
, Here is how you can email Dr.Ponsetti http://www.vh.org/pediatric/patient/orthopaedics/clubfeet/index.html Dr.Ponsetti's method is the same for all clubbed feet. Even if their feet are pretty flexible. Dr.Bonar said Isabella's feet were stiff but not severly stiff as some children she has treated had. I would email him with all your questions and see what he tells you. He has told me, the same thing Dr.Bonar said. Isabella wears the DBB for 3months straight 23 hours a day. Then for 16-18 hours a day until she starts walking. Then nightly after she walks. My daughter has bilateral clubbed feet and her shoes are both at 70 degrees. She has the red adjustable dbb with regular tennis shoes attached to it. (Isabella 10-12-02 with bilateral clubbed feet) > > > My son got his DBB on Dec. 26th. Guest guest
We see Dr. Latz. In fact we have an appointment today. We were initially referred to him by our pediatrician. We did not know had clubbed feet until he arrived. We knew nothing about the Ponsetti method and saw Dr. Latz as a professional who knew more than us. Luckily for us he did practice the Ponseti method but did have deviation. We did casting below the knees for weeks 3-7. The DBB we wore 20 hours for 3 months and then 12 hours for 7 months. We discontinued because he never became accustomed to sleeping with it. Up 5, 6, 7 time a night. Dr. Latz thought it was an anomoly with his foot in particular and sent us to Dr. Ponseti himself at 18 months. Dr. Ponseti thought his feet were ok and said don't make him wear the brace any more. We just went back (34 months) and Dr. Ponseti still says everything looks great. We told him that we see Dr. Latz every three months and that he wants to do a ATTT. Dr. Ponseti said DO NOT do the ATTT, it will damage the correction already achieved. He chuckled at the frequency of our visits and said he makes a lot of money from you. We sincerely appreciate Dr. Latz, however, it is apparent he is not a true Ponseti doctor. After what I have learned we are grateful that 's feet are OK Amy and (BL CF 03-25-00) >>> lifeinoz@... 01/19/03 11:06PM >>> My son got his DBB on Dec. 26th. Today when I gave him a bath his feet looked purple and almost bruised. I don't think I am putting the shoes on too tight. In fact sometimes I think they are a little loose. Has anyone else had this problem? Also I referred to the list of providers that is on the Ponsetti website and my doctor is not there. He says he studied in Iowa a couple of summers ago. I know atleast one person out there also has Dr. Latz in Kansas City. How do doctors get on the " approved " list and if you are seeing Dr. Latz do you know why he is not on the list. Also he told us to start wearing the bar for 18-20 hrs a day from the very beginning. From what I've been reading everyone else was instructed to wear the shoes a lot longer in the beginning, I'm starting to think maybe I heard the doctor wrong! Well I hope you guys can answer my questions. Just concerned. and Ethan 11-2-02 (left club foot)
