Guest guest
Hi, Try Miralax powder mixed with water for constipation - works great!! I found that the diet's not that hard. It just seems intimidating the first few weeks, then you'll get used to it and find a routine. Good luck, Heidi, future occupational therapist and single mom to (IS, Severely/Multiply Impaired) and twin brother, (4 years), and big sis Madison (6). Guest guest
This is our 3rd week on the diet for our son (18 months). I wished that someone had told me to expect real problems with his blood sugar. The first night he dropped to 27. If he had dropped two more points they would have to go into emergency protocol with juice which would have ruined ketosis. There is alot of blood work and urinanalysis in the hospital. even had an EKG which we had never had before. I wish all tests were that simple. Then of course there are the tiny meals. The first few meals is 1/3 of the meal plans and boy are they tiny. I thought I was prepared to see them, but I was not. They are tiny and as a mother I really feel every day like I am starving my son. He was always a good eater. Even on full meal plan at 3:1 ratio he still is not eating 1/8 of the bulk that he had before (calories maybe but not bulk). This is hard to accept for me, but I am getting used to it. Also be prepared to have to explain to everyone that " no " under no uncertain terms can you cheat on the diet. Everyone from grandparents to nursery workers are all very interested and shocked to see what he eats (or rather what he doesn't eat). went toxic on meds the first week. We have already lowered quite a bit of the meds so that is much better. We went through constipation, dehydration, having to force meals down him, and then of course there is the toxicity which caused him to be so drunken and wobbly that he couldn't walk or play. It all has worked out. We still have to force some of the cream especially the whipped cream we use to give meds, but all the other items worked their way out. We are starting to see a difference. We had a wonderful day on Saturday for the Easter Egg Hunt. He had 95% seizure control that day. Praise God. Hopefully with some more work we'll get there or better than that every day. Good luck to you. Be prepared but don't be afraid. They'll watch over closely and you'll leave the hospital ready to do it. Guest guest
Just a small correction: Giving a small bit of juice when blood sugars drop, does not ruin ketosis. It is not an emergency, just a support for the transition period of starting the diet. Bill Tina Buckner wrote: > This is our 3rd week on the diet for our son (18 months).
