Some info on excessive mucous and cough

Hi Everyone,

I know there are a few of us here that had questions about excessive

mucous and what to do about it. We saw the Oncologist last week and

he was quite concerned about after he listened to his lungs.

He though we were seeing a pulmonary specialist and when he found

out we did not have one, he moved into action.

I had told him about the passing out spells starting again. About

5am while I was in deep sleep I heard a loud crash. I looked over

at his side of the bed and it was empty. I jumped out of bed

screaming and running. I got into the kitchen and saw both bar

stools turned over and just saw 2 feet sticking out from under our

breakfast table. Orange juice is still all over my kitchen. All he

remembers is starting to cough and nothing else but me standing over

him shaking him. He had had two other spells during the day that I

was able to ward off. He did this last August and it was caused by

DVT to the leg.

The Onc called the hospital and sent us directly there to have a

test done to make sure his arteries to the heart were not closing

off. He passed that with flying colors and we came home that night.

We saw the Pulmonary doc Monday and this is what he is doing and it

is really helping.

Post Nasal Drainage: Levaquin antibiotic and Nasalcort

Too much congestion: Afrin spray as needed

COPD/Asthma Mix Albuterol + Atrovent and Liquid Lidocaine into a

neublizer and breath mixture. This works wonders!!! The Lidocaine

stops the tickle in the throat and stops the excessive cough.

Excessive Mucous: Prednisone for 3 weeks starting with 2 pills one

week and then 1 1/2 for another week and then 1 the final week.

He suspects some pnumonits from the radiation that really set the

whole problem off.

It's amazing in 2 days what a difference it has made. Oh, another

thing he gave is a salt that you dilute in 8oz of water and

flush out your whole sinus cavity. It's kind of gross but the water

actually is supposed to come out the opposite nose or your mouth.

made me try it and it is amazing how great it feels afterward.

I know this is a long post but if it can help a few of you with the

same problem it's worth it.
