MARTIN,

THANKS FOR THE INFORMATION. MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE BEEN SO CONFUSED AS TO ALL

THE DIFFERENT METHODS FOR CORRECTING CLUB FEET. WHEN WE FIRST SOUGHT

TREATMENT AT SCOTTISH RITE THEY OFFERED TWO DIFFERENT METHODS, THE PONSETI

AND THE FRENCH STRETCHING. WE DID NOT KNOW THE DIFFERENCE IN THE TWO EXCEPT

WE KNEW WE COULD NOT DRIVE TO DALLAS EVERYDAY FOR THE FRENCH TECHNIQUE, SO WE

CHOSE THE PONSETI. I'M HOPING WE MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE.

MY HUSBAND WAS ALSO BORN W/ CLUB FEET. HE IS NOW 26 YRS OLD AND IS HAVING

ALOT OF PAIN AND STIFFNESS IN HIS FEET NOW. WE HOPE TO AVOID THIS FOR

KEARSTEN. AGAIN THANKS FOR THE INFORMATION. IT IS A REAL BLESSING TO FIND SO

MANY OTHER FAMILIES GOING THROUGH THE SAME THING WE ARE.

DO YOU KNOW HOW I CAN FIND OTHER FAMILIES WHO HAVE GONE TO SCOTTISH RITE

HOSPITAL IN DALLAS?

SINCERELY,

KIM BARNETT

My daughter was born on Nov. 22, 02 w/ bilateral clubfeet. We have

been going to the " ish Rite Hospital for Children " for her

treatment. After finding this site, I am beginning to wonder if her

doctor is actually following the true " Ponseti " protocol or not.

Could someone please respond to my message so that I can be better

informed on the correct method. As of Feb. 06,2003, my daughter has

not had any x-rays of her feet or hips. She has has the heel cord sx

and is now in the bar as of Ja. 26,2003.

Sincerely,

Kim Barnett

Kim,

Welcome to our group.

In the Ponseti method, x-rays are typically not done. Also, I

believe that in general babies hips are checked without the use of x-

rays unless they may think that there is a potential problem.

The amount of time from your child's birth to tenotomy at 6 weeks

seems like the Ponseti method. If when looking at the information

that is at Dr. Ponseti's web site, you think that something is being

done that you don't think is the real Ponseti protocol, you can ask

us and well will give you our impressions.

At Dr. Ponseti's web site you can also look at a parents still photo

web site showing the progression week by week of treatment with the

Ponseti method at NYU. That site is the Cotton Family at

http://hometown.aol.com/vc11

In addition, there is a downloadable video of all of the procedures

done by Dr. Ponseti for a child filmed in 1956 showing the casting,

tenotomy, FAB/DBB and the followup check-ups at 3 years, 8 years, 18

years and at 42 years of age. It is at the bottom of the Patient

Testimonial page at

http://www.vh.org/pediatric/patient/orthopaedics/clubfeet/patientlist.

Kim,

My daughter Isabella was born in October. The army hospital did not

take any x rays of her feet and neither did the ponsetti doctor in

Kansas city. She said she didn't have to because she could tell by

moving the feet and hips. I am very greatful for finding this group

and getting Isabella a ponsetti method doctor.I went on Dr.Ponsetti's

website and emailed him and he gave me a properly trained doctor that

does his method. We travel almost 3 hours to see her but it is so

well worth it.Isabella is doing great and with no surgery. Everyone

who don't understand clubbed feet ask me if she is going to get

surgery and i say no. They automatically assume that is what will

correct it. Until they see her feet out of the DBB and are amazed

how straight they are. I don't know how you can find other families

that go to your hospital. Maybe post it on the parents place

clubfoot board or the other yahoo clubfoot board.

Sincerely,

(Mom to Isabella 10-12-02 bilateral clubbed feet)

Kim,

I have talked to the doctors and physiotherapists at Dallas ish

Rite a number of times over the past 3 years. Here is a message from

April 2001 soon after they had started offering the Ponseti method in

addition to the French Physiotherpay method.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nosurgery4clubfoot/message/6994

In the past, Dr. Ponseti has had a number of parents from the Dallas

area who had gone to Iowa, but I don't think were on this site.

There have also been a few parents here on the internet from around

Dallas such as this prior message at

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nosurgery4clubfoot/message/8977

and this message from at

Dear Kim,

Welcome to the site! Have you checked the files section of this website? There

is alot of information there (you have to sign in to access). Also, another

good site is the message board at Parents Place. To get there, go to

www.ivillage.com. Next, at the top of the page is a search. Type in

" clubfoot " . This will bring you to about 10 choices. Click on the the Clubfoot

Message Board one. You will find quite a bit of information including links to

several other helpful sites.

How has your daughter been treated so far? Was your doctor recommended by

Ponseti?

Bethany

any info. on club feet

Sincerely,

Kim Barnett
