I've been following this on the Homeland Security lists and the like and in

fact I first learned of it via a public radio news cast yesterday in the early

AM while heading to Houston for a meeting (I bet I'm one of a few that

listens to NPR).

At first the reports said that it was an incursion by the Mexicans that

somehow foiled a US drug interdiction effort on the border then in another news

cast they corrected that to say it was the Mexican authorities that were the

smugglers.

I'd have to say the short answer doc is that EMS line all public Safety

could tangle with these " bad guys " and assuming they are actually really Mexican

" officials " I'm pretty sure they would be rather not so wanting to get

" caught " north of the Border given this would be truly " an international "

incident

hence I'm betting that since where you have drugs, guns, illegal's whatever

you're smuggling you tend to bring lots of guns as well (Smugglers blues, what

a song) that ANY public safety persons in the area is a potential target and

or victim for these guys and really it don't matter if they are imposters of

the real thing in terms of the " official " nature of their credentials. They

are likely a mean bunch of SOBs.

Stay safe those of you who wear badges near the border!

I am probably the only goofball on this list that reads the Spanish

newspapers, but has anybody heard of border incursions by Mexican Army

personnel to assist with drug smuggling. The attached article details a

worrisome incursion out near El Paso. While the Mexican government denies

any incursion, Texas and Border Patrol officials say it is occurring. Is

this putting EMS personnel a risk?

The NBC story states that the " soldiers " were in HUMVEE's (sp) with 50

cal. MG's on them. Drug smugglers would have a hard time getting that

kind of equipment - even in Mexico.

the other hand the police in Mexico are corrupt, why wouldn't the military be

This is not a joke. It's all over the news. I

believe they worked for AWACS or something like that.

The main guy was a sergeant and they actually called

him the kingpin of the whole operation. So now the

mexican government is having a field day with it.

First of all the story that Sal is talking about and the one the one

that was posted are two totally different stories.

Our service area stops at the rio grande river, and there have been

alot of recent stories of Border Patrol Agents getting shot at form

the Mexican side, stiking vehicle and boats.

As far as the mexican gov't, you never know who is currupt and who is

not. Was it the Mexican Gov't helping to cross drug? I would not

doupt it.

Just this morning they are reporting that a tunnel was found in

california from mexico that is 1 mile long, with electicity and it

own ventilation system.

Anyway having lived in a Border City all of my life, anything is

possible with the Mexican gov't.
