Yep, it's . I was trying to keep it a tad annonymous but what the

heck. If it weren't for and so many other dedicated long-time

posters here, none of us would be as thyca knowledgeable as we are today.

I KNOW I wouldn't~! :)

I've never liked to wear anything on my neck, and even 6 months

postop, my neck is still physically uncomfortable with anything

(blankets, clothes), touching it. Of course, it's still kind of like

that without anything touching it, too - that " why is someone choking

me " feeling. I've grown used to it, kinda. No anxiety, though, just

discomfort - I touch it all the time (still putting that vitamin e on

it most days)

Me, too - it's a good excuse to explain thyca to people! Really,

though, I don't think many people notice, and my scar is still pretty

obvious - I don't heal well from scars.

*******************Kathleen I can say yes to that question. I have

Afib/Flutter. Back when I was in my early 20's and having my afib/flutter

attacks (not

knowing what they were till i was 47) I would go into a panic. The afib

attacks were short and I always converted in minutes in the early days but the

flutter was different. When I went into flutter my heart and pulse were racing

and I would start to sweat and panic because of this. I would then start to

shake and I could not stop it. Its a fight or flight reaction when you have a

fear or you feel threatened. I did not know why I felt this way but it would

happen once or twice a year and I never knew when it would happen. I was

having a panic attack as soon as the aflutter started to happen. The flutter

would

last an hour or more and when it stopped I stopped shaking. I read up on

panic attacks and breathing while your having a panic attack so when I went into

flutter I would try to take control with deep breaths and relax and it would

get me through the flutter without the shaking. I thought I was dealing with

just panic attacks but it was actually a panic attack because of the flutter.

Once I took control of the breathing and tried to ride the flutter out the

panic attacks did not control me and the shaking stopped but obviously the

flutter still came now and then as did the afib but I had a little control over

the

flutter stopping the shaking part.

Background: I have read quite a few times about the anxiety that afib can

generate for some people. Knowing that each episode will end (most likely)

helped me decide that anxiety would not be a problem for me because I refuse

to worry about afib. However, I just got through an episode that lasted

nearly 24 hours and I had horrible anxiety that dissipated after the episode

ended. The anxiety seemed to be about anything, but especially about some

financial and legal problems I am experiencing right now‹things over which I

have very little control.

Question: Does afib actually ³cause² anxiety in the sense of stimulating a

physiological response?

Kathleen, I think so. I instantly become very anxious. I asked a

shrink about this once, and she said, of course, you're short of

breath, your heartbeat is irregular, the brain says I must be

panicing :-) Actually, not very :-)

p.s. Of course, some people don't panic at all, generally those who

aren't aware of the physical symptoms of afib.

Deb,

I found that was the answer that has kept me out of the emergency room all

these years. In focusing on little things that are pleasant or give me a warm,

cozy, relaxed feeling, the anxiety about afib would recede back in the

beginning 20 years ago when I was anxious. Now I don't get that anxious about

afib,

but I do think that some of the symptoms of afib can mimic the symptoms of

anxiety and vice versa. For example, at times when I am in afib I feel a bit of

weakness similar to what one might experience after a bad scare. Anxiety can

have the same effect. So I don't think that afib has to cause anxiety, per

se, but it can cause symptoms that seem like those of anxiety. Also, it can be

very easy to mistake an anxiety attack for afib, I discovered when I was

having anxiety attacks.

I am a 79 year old male who has had paroximal afib for about 4

years. An ablation attempt was aborted due to too many contact

points and was put on amiodarone 200mg after a loading dose. Had

headaches and tremor in left hand. I went on 100 mg and went a year

with no afib problems. Anxiety is a big problem for me. If I have

indigestion, I think I am going into afib for4-5 hours. What has

helped me is taking Tranxene 7.5 mg ,also known as Clorazdipot.

Sometimes just a half dose to relax me and stop an attack or shorten

the time I am in one. This was originally prescribe for getting to

sleep and I just tried it on my own. The doctor later approved of my

using it for this purpose.I am not recommending it,only saying what

has helped me.

I am the queen of panic. I have Panic Disorder to begin with so I

know one does not help the other.

Hi, Rank(?),

Is your doc checking you periodically for side effects of

Amiodarone? It does help some people, but it can also cause problems

with the lungs, thyroid, eyesight, etc. There are other meds to try

if that becomes a concern - dofetilide, etc.
