Some folks are iodine deficient... but those with Grave's or Hashi's have to be careful with iodine intake cuz aggravates both conditions.

not just that little part in the middle.... that makes you so much stronger without even lifting weights or doing all kinds of hard training and hurting..... just stretch.... slow and steady......

okay... shutting up now... I'm romanticizing stretching!!! but it ROCKS!

CeliaI am ither doing leg lifts and streching my leg straight as far as I can to go over my head.

When on the floor I put my knees on each side of my head. Standing up I keep legs straight and bend down and touch my palms on the floor. It helps to strechout for my spine injuries. carol in fla

This scares me..I had a few friends who told me to take iodine (

kelps supplement or Lugol's solution) and after trying the avoid

approach before adding I can honestly say I would of hospitalized

myself by taking it and it would not of taken that long.

In most developed countries there is too much iodine in the diet.

Iodine deffiency is a serious treatable health issue especially in

children in underdeveloped country.

Studies have been done as iodine has been added to the food supply

that state increased iodine in the diet increases the % of those

with autoimmune thyroid disease..both grave's and hashi's.

The thinking is MILD iodine deffiency actualy protects the gland

from autoimmune thyroid diseases in those genetically suspectable.

I will not say it is immpossible, but it is rare to find someone in

a developed country who is truly iodine deffient..and considering

both high and low levels of iodine can cause serious health problems

I would not reccommend a supplement with out having proper lab work

done first to determine the need.

With hyper lugol's solution use to actually be the treatment..it

works by adding large amounts of Iodine that in that quanity have

the opposite effect..So someone who is hyper taking iodine would

lessen the hyper and they would feel better..until the thyroid

function slowed down..allowing it to absorb more iodine losing the

reverse effect and making them more hyper.

With hypo it works the same way..with hypo your metabolism is slower

and by adding iodine you give your thyroid more iodine to uptake so

it can produce more hormone..this in turn makes you feel better but

because the thyroid is not functioning properly the stimulation on

your thyroid actually destroys more of your thyroid function leaving

you more hypo..

Do a search for something called iodine induced goiter.. with an

autoimmune thyroid disease any type of thyroid stimulation should be

avoided.

I do my stretches and weight resistance in bed, saves the effort of getting up an down from the floor. I found that by setting up my routine and running through it right before bed that I'm less likely to skip it... it's my routine.... Works good for me, here...... I think, though, if I had my own rules... my own space to set up for exercise, I might be ready to go back to a morning workout.... But the timing here doesn't work for that... other folks in the house and such....

I avoided iodine for a good two weeks or at least made an effort to

try and avoid it.

With out even thinking I went with a few moms from the boys school

out to a new Italian bakery in the area for coffee..

Now they have this breakfast sandwich that is really really

good..sort of like a ham, egg and cheese omlette on a sandwich.. I

could taste the salt on it though..

My throat swelled instantly...not like an allergic reaction but my

thyroid..my pulse went up to 155..and you could actually look at my

throat from across the table and take my pulse..I was shaking like

crazy..I am talking instant hyper.. bad enough that I had a customer

in the store and one of the coffee mom's both tell me I had Grave's

disease and neither one of them knew anything about me having thyroid

problems or about iodine or the salt in the sandwich.

Two things I have found that get the shakes and pulse going is iodine

or coffee.. and I can always tell if I have too much iodine..

For me it has become a fine balance for controlling symptoms.

I really think that the reaction that you had was probably due to MSG that was in the food, a lot of restaurants add it to food and even if they do not it is in almost every processed food that you buy. That is one major reason that I avoid processed food. Do a google on MSG and there is a site out there that tells you how to read the labels on food and find the hidden MSG. They knew people were catching on so they use different wording to show it is in there and fool the average consumer. Haven't you ever wondered why on some labels they will list the spices they use and then list an ingredient "spice" toward the end of the list? That is MSG. MSG has been shown to cause many problems with the nervous system. I have reactions to it also and have to avoid most restaurants.

MSG gave me horrible headaches. We only get takeout chinese that has no msg and is cooked right there in front of you.

I can't stand the taste of proscessed food. Those gross cheese. We only buy real cheese. The deli will cut it in blocks. Don't buy a lot because of the fat etc. I could live on a big plate of fruit and some cheese.

Actually I am allergic to MSG so I know how to avoid it and have a

totally different reaction than that one..

Unfortunately I am not that good at completely avoiding iodine and

have had the same reaction as before since..

I understand how simple the iodine solution sounds, and on

thyroidmanager although not studied enough to be conclusive they

state that 10% of those with thyroid problems have an autoimune to

iodine itself..who knows if that maybe my problem as there is no

commercial way to test outside of a research lab.

I just think iodine is also a drug and should not be taken at high

doses out of blind faith without proper blood work that indicates a

need for it.
