One more thing....I started trying 3 months before my first year anniversary of

my surgery and I didn't conceive until a year later and I don't have PCOS. I

just wasn't ovulating. So don't be disappointed if it doesn't happen right

away. I was trying not to get pregnant when we conceived our daughter (born in

1990). So I thought it would be a snap for me to get pregnant now that my cycle

is back to normal. Not so. I ended up having to take Clomid and HCG injections

for a couple of months before I got pregnant.

Good luck!

My name is and I had GBS on Nov. 19. I am down 110 lbs so

far. I also suffer from PCOS. My question is is it safe to go ahead

and start trying to get pregnant at 10 months out from surgery? My

PCOS is getting better, so far I have had 2 periods in a row right on

time. I go to see my GYN in July and I am going to have him run blood

work to check all my levels. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Hi and welcome!

What's your WLS surgeon's recommendation? It seams that the common practice

is anywhere from 1 to 2 years post-op. Ideally, you want to be at your goal

weight for a period of time to stabilize. Of course there are women who

became preggo before the " ideal " time and have done fine.

BTW, I'm a PCOer, too. And now, the proud mama of a 5 month old baby girl.

:o)

I was so excited to actually get regular periods post-WLS. I NEVER thought

I'd see the day when I'd be happy to get my period! LOL!!

Best of luck to you, . Please keep us posted.

Blessings,

Hi ,

here is my .02...

I have read, and heard from my surgeon to wait 12-18 months until your

weight is stablized. It would be better for mother and baby. But then

again, some women have gotten pregnant and have had healthy babies before

the 12-18 month range. I would wait until after July, when you see your

doctor and have your blood work done. Also, I would recommend talking with

your surgeon.

Good Luck

HOw long does your doctor say to wait? Go by what he feels you should do. We

are not medical professionals with information about your circumstances. If

you are still losing quickly and have not really stabilized you should hold

off definitely. Just because you can get pregnant doesn't necessarily mean

it is the best thing to do. Talk it over with your surgeon and see what

he/she says about how long you should wait. Most recommend at least a year

if not two.

Hi Stacey, welcome and congrats on the pregnancy. Do you dump with sugar? If

so, you CAN decline the glucose test. You are out from surgery just a little

longer then I am, and I did fine with the glucose, but I dont dump. However I

was reallllllly nervous to try it lol.......its up to you, you dont have to do

anything you dont want to do. And dont think that you have to only share good

news here, we are all there for each other, and that means through hard times

too! Welcome!

Hi. This is Stacey in New York City. I had Gastric Bypass Surgery in

May 2000 and lost about 100 pounds. I am now 7 months pregnant with

my first baby and doing great thank G-d. I haven't gained any weight

in my pregnancy - in fact, I lost 10 pounds at the beginning and have

only started to put a couple of those pounds back on but I think it's

going directly to the baby because my face looks smaller than ever!

In any case, I am glad to have found this board because I haven't

found so many resources on post GBS pregnancy on the internet and I

was feeling kind of frustrated. I have a great OBGYN practice but I

think I'm their first GBS/pregnancy case (so they just keep telling

me to " take more calcium " and I keep telling them why I can't drink

the glucose at 28 weeks...)

I look forward to hearing everyones stories and feedback and sharing

only good news.

Hi, my name is Kim and I had open RNY Sept 26/02 and found out Oct 17

that I'm pregnant. The only thing that's concerning me is that I was

pregnant when I had this surgery. Both my husband and I are in

shock. Have been together 10 years and have never become pregnant

until the same month that I had WLS. My first appt. with the Dr. and

dietian is on Monday and was just wondering if there are any moms out

there who this happened to? Thanks.
