There are several reasons for this, the most common for this being taking T4

along with or too close in time to certain medications or supplements (iron,

calcium, and soy are some of the big ones). Another

possibility is that you are buying your meds from a bad source and they have

been exposed to extreme fluctuations in temperature. You may be interested in

I don't know of any sites or studies that specifically make the connection

between tooth breakage and RAI, but we know that saliva is certainly affected,

and that in turn affects the teeth. You don't

mention how many RAI treatments you've had, or the doses, nor if you've had

problems with your salivary glands. As you mention, you are not the first

person to be having such a problem with your teeth,

although I believe actual breakage and loss is rather unusual (at least based on

this group). Certainly, your problem seems worse than most I've read about.

RAI also has an impact on bone marrow, usually not significant, and usually

temporary, and also on WBC count, but I don't know if this is affecting your

teeth, too.

.... from , MD (nuclear med) ....

" RAI does not directly affect the teeth. However, some people get a dry mouth

after RAI treatment from salivary damage. Having a dry mouth from any cause

can make you at increased risk for cavities. I refer my patients with a dry

mouth

to a dentist for close follow-up with dental hygiene and for consideration of

saliva substitutes. You should tell your dentist that you have had RAI along

with everything else in your medical history. "

, Are you considered " immuno-compromised " after RAI? You

mentioned White count is affected, and as an ER nurse planning on returning

to work after the RAI (and appropriate isolation, of course!) this whould be

very important to know.

Thank you ,
