Hi Maya,

Thanks I am now more knowledgeable than before. Just returned from the JRI

after seeing Dr. PB, nice guy. Anyone had dealings with BCBS regarding

resurfacing? Dr. PB indicated confidence that they can be persuaded to pay

for it somehow because the individual components are FDA approved, i.e.

Conserve with a THR'ish cup, anyone know more about this strategy?

chiroprator and/or deep tissue massage?

Date: Fri, Nov 1, 2002, 10:03 AM

Hi everybody,

I was considering going to a chiroprator to get " re-aligned " as I've

read it mentioned here as helpful a few times. What can I expect as

far as services? Do they normally do deep tissue massages? I'm feeling

quite stiff and am hoping loosening the muscles will help improve my

ROM and overall flexibilty. Are there any other options (Pilates,

beginner yoga, " soft " massage) that have also helped?

As for my recovery, at 7+ weeks post-op I'm getting more independant

of my cane everyday. I'm starting to walk away without it, which I

read is a good sign. I'm still limping and after a rough day of

cleaning and running errands, I find I'm sore the next day but NOTHING

like the pain-drama I experienced pre-op. I've been sleeping

comfortably on my back, sides and tummy for a few weeks now. Dr. Mont

confirmed my meralgia paresthetica suspicions at my 6 week check-up:

http://www.neurobc.com/conditions/maralgia_paresthetica.htm

He said it should go away in a few months (he seemed surprised that I

actually have this). I think it's because the muscles are so tight,

hence the desire to get massaged :) I'm not restrained by it at all,

it's just a pinched nerve that catches me off guard sometimes.

I " PT " myself at the gym here at home 3x a week (hip machine,

treadmill for 5 minutes, quads, etc.) Nothing too strenuous but my

weight limits are increasing all the time. I was a fitness walker

until about 2 months before surgery when I just couldn't do it without

miserable pain. I expect to be back on track (at 5x week at 40

minutes) by my 6 month mark in March.

Thanks for all the suggestions and encouragement.

I have blue shield and got my resurfacing covered. However it took 9

months and an appearance before the grievance panel to do it.I'm

going to assume that you saw Dr. Beaule. He did my hip and at 61/2

weeks post op I'm very happy with his work.

Thanks Matt,

Yup it was Dr. Beaule. Matt was it BCBS of California or some other state?

He indicated he doesn't have too many problems with BCBS out of state

companies, he indicated BCBS of California are very difficult.

I was resurfaced by Dr. s on 5 September 2002 and was covered by BC/BS

of Minnesota...As has been emphasized many times on this group: Do not try

and deal with the insurance companies yourself, let the Dr's staff handle

it!!

Isara -

I had my surgery with De Smet on June 12, 2002 and received the

bill in early October. The nice thing was I received a refund of

about EUR 300. Hang in there, the bill will arrive.

Indeed, I got approved on the first level of appeal, but since I

went
to Belgium I have yet to find out if they will pay anything. I

still
have not gotten the accounting from Dr. DeSmet and the hospital.

Now
he says it can take up to 6 months. & nbsp; I am hoping that they

will, but
they exclude overseas coverage except for emergency or urgent. I

have
been waiting for the accounting and am pretty much on my own with a
request, no Dr.'s staff to go to bat here.

I started the elliptical machine at 5 minutes on Sept. 13th, and

that
was hard to do then. Now I am at 30 minutes, and can increase that
easily as I am at my 2nd week. I have lost over 20 lbs. Now I am
doing the Nia class. The dancing is fun and much of it I can do,

but
the kicks are the hardest part. Most of the time I have to sit down
and move my arms for part of the class. I can integrate on most of
the moves at a lower level, but look forward to kicking

higher.
