This is a physical therapy modality, applied in physical therapy clinics, in addition to the other 2 uses of ultrasound you mention. I think You would have to be appropriately evaluated by a doctor familiar with your disease and the rehabilitation options. You don't mention what kind of surgery - is your doctor talking joint replacement, or some other sort of repair? Jean
Guest guest
I'm just preparing myself to talk with a doctor tomorrow. I would just like to be able to straighten my elbow again and maybe someday, go back to lifting weights and playing sports. I just wanted to know my options. Thanks, Dave Re: rheumatic repairing joints on 6/25/01 10:29 AM, LouiseBodonald at lbodonald@... wrote: > Ultrasound won't " fix " anything; it's a diagnostic tool -- far's I know; > unless > you're thinking of the type they use to break up kidney stones?? Dave, Have you tried the Arthritis Foundation? They should have a lot of information about joint replacement: <http://www.arthritis.org/Answers/SurgeryCenter/sc_default.asp> Jean

I had a trigger finger surgically fixed about 20 years ago (probably the true start of my psoriatic arthritis only I didn't know anything about that then; I thought it was from hitting a rock during a terrible golf shot on my part!). Couldn't use the finger through full range of motion but after the surgery I could. Then last year I had a hip replacement and can now use that hip/leg fully. Ultrasound won't " fix " anything; it's a diagnostic tool -- far's I know; unless you're thinking of the type they use to break up kidney stones?? But I don't think it can be used for joints (boy if it can lemme know and I'll get my hands treated right NOW!! :-) --Louise
