concerned about DBB & blisters

Hello,

My daughter Kearsten wore her DBB for 2 wks when she started

developing a blister on her right heel. Within two days it had turned

into a stage 3 sore, despite my efforts with applying bandaids and

making sure her shoes were tight enought so that they were not

sliding up & down on the foot. I'm wondering if anyone else has had

this same problem and do you have any suggestions for me.

We took her to her doctor on Feb.12 and he has told us not to put her

brace back on until he sees her again on Feb. 18, but I am concerned

this will set her back in her progression. Please respond w/any

advice on the blisters and the recommendation of her Dr. to not wear

her brace for a week.

Thanks,

Kim & Kearsten (bil. cf 11-22-02)

Kim,

I'm sorry to hear about Kearsten's blisters! My daughter,

also suffered from blisters. I, too, was

diligent about keeping her shoes on tight. We tried many

different shapes of the plastizote insert (sometimes that

worked). Eventually we ended up putting Dr. Scholl's

moleskin on the heel area and we unlaced the top 2 holes

each time she got new shoes for about 2 weeks until she

broke them in. This usually worked in preventing them or

if there was just a little redness starting.

never had an open sore so I'm not sure what Kearsten's

situation warrants (stg 3 means open, right?). I remember

being told that if 's got much worse they'd

consider re-casting her until the sore healed. I'm

surprised your doctor hasn't mentioned this option?

Hang in there! As Kearsten gets older, the issues with

blisters diminishes greatly. It will be worth your

frustration in the long run!
