Guest guest
Okay first of all -- breathe! It will be okay. YOu are over a year out. Even when you got pregnant you were a year out -- about the same time as what i was. What not to ingest? Okay avoid shellfish, alcohol, cigarettes, the same things any normal expectant mother is told to avoid. Raw eggs (due to salmonella), lunch meats (due to listeria), etcetera and so forth. Medications need to be limited but you can talk that over with your ob. Your 12 year old is not going to be happy? Well you might be surprised. Seriously. I am not trying to make light of this but you can have a normal pregnancy since you are past the fast weight loss. The women here will help you through it provided you want to keep the baby. The first thing you should do is contact your surgeon (if you trust him/her) and find an OB/GYN. Make an appointment to get a blood test and schedule the first ultrasound. Okay? Guest guest
Congratulations!! I had my surgery June 9, 2000 and my only child will be 12 in September and believe me she wasn't happy when I got pregnant. But if you help involve them (like I told my daughter she could decorate the nursery all herself) it will help them accept it better. You will do fine with this pregnancy and we are all here to help. My OB told me she wanted me to get 70 grams of protein a day and make sure I eat every 2 hours (which I find impossible since I'm still full after 2 hours). Make sure you take your vitamins and find an OB who understands your surgery and how your nutrition differs other pregnant women. Good luck!! Nette help, I'm 4 weeks pregnant I had gastric by-pass May 9, 2001 followed by an anastomic leak and a year's worth of complications. Guest guest
According to one of the parenting magazines (either Parenting or Parents) they stated that there is a SLIM MINISCULE chance that accumlated mercury could cause you to get sick -- that also holds for other fish. Or maybe I am just confused and it holds for other fish (tuna and shark and such) but because i am allergic to shellfish (though I love it like crazy) I am jealous and projecting. I know that makes it clear as mud. Rasley mailto:drasley@... Guest guest
Well, my sister ate crabs her whole pregnancy, and I have had shrimp a couple times and steamed crabs a couple times. I would say eat in moderation and don't eat anything that seems not fresh either. Re: help, I'm 4 weeks pregnant > > > Why not eat shellfish? Guest guest
oh I know I was shocked when I found it out before. I just found the cracker stackers and they are perfect although sometimes I can't even eat all of that. Sandi Re: help, I'm 4 weeks pregnant > > > Why not eat shellfish? Guest guest
You wouldn't think that little bit of food would be so high. Plus I only eat half the cheese, so I lie to myself that its less fattening : ) Re: help, I'm 4 weeks pregnant > > > Why not eat shellfish? Guest guest
Some lunch meat from what I have read has been found to have something called listeria (a type of bacteria) in it which can cause you to get ill. Check with your OB but I know that lunch meat (certain types) it is best to avoid. This is according to the parenting mags I read. Rasley mailto:drasley@... Guest guest
I have been told by a nurse.........not to eat certain kinds of fish, but not to avoid them all together. You shouldn't eat bass, walleye, shark, swordfish, orange ruffie, macral, tuna (including canned), pike and some other large fish. They can be high in mercury which can cause problems in development of the babys nervous system. I was also told that you can eat things like fish sticks, cod, etc. Also you can eat shell fish...shrimp and crab, as long as it is cooked! The advise to limit your servings to 10-12 ounces a week. The nurse also told me about a website to check out (haven't looked at it yet myself), but both are supposed to tell about fish recommendations. www.fda.gov OR www.epa.com. Hope this helps.
