Guest guest
Gorp. It is always unsettling to realize I'm the age of someone's mother (or grandmother :-) , my own situation is very similar to your Mom's - 60 and having had afib episodes for 3+ years. No other heart conditions. I don't like hearing that your Mom was put Amiodarone, with its potentially damaging side effects. It does take several months to get out of a person's system. Has the doc said if her liver problems will be okay? (I have heard of vision, lung, and thyroid problems from it, liver is a new one on me.) This makes me think her doc is not the best. I would certainly suggest she see Dr. Natale. Each ablation creates some scar tissue, if I understand it correctly, and has risks, so she doesn't want to mess around with anyone but the best. Or if she's going to be in Europe, Dr. Haisseguerre in France is as good as Dr. Natale. He has patients come from all over the world. I believe it was he who first discovered the current state of the art technique for ablations. Also, she might consider trying a med called dofetilide, which has been very helpful to various members of the group in terms of keeping them in normal rhythm. Her doc may not be up to speed on it. I hope your mom will post to the group. It is a great comfort to me to know that other people are out there and understand.
