In the vernacular of 14 year olds, the thought of having to have surgery

sucks! However, if Dr. A says resurfacing is the way to go, then go for

it! I found the anticipation to be worse than the actual surgery! She

will be amazed at how much better she will feel and move. There was a

youngster, Casey, that had her hip done last year. If you search the

archives, you may find her address and she might be willing to share her

experiences with your daughter.

So sorry to hear that your daughter has to go through this at such a

young age - puts my prediciament in perspective! My niece has (had?)

CDH and underwent surgery (hip osteotomy) at the age of 4. Everyone

was amazed how well she coped (in terms of being cheerful and

recovery speed)- I think children and young people are often better

patients than adults. Carla is 13 now and has no limp, plays sports

etc. I'm sure she would write to your neice if it would help.

Best of luck

Kathy
