Guest guest
Elle My mom only lives 10 minutes away from us. I think we are going to have a hard time keeping her away from our house. My inlaws live a couple of hours away. So they may only come for a day. My dh is going to take 2 weeks off then I am hoping my mom comes over a lot. I think I am going to be really scared to be alone w/this baby. Pam

Guest guest
Elle, I’ve never had a baby, but your plan sounds the best. That way you’ll be a little more confident when the family comes in. And you will have help for the first 3 weeks when the baby’s schedule is crazy and you are just physically exhausted. I would think it would be mind numbing to have dh and the families at your house the first week or so. Janice 17 weeks -----Original Message----- From: myeroyse@... DH is also going to take a week off. I was sort of thinking I would like it to just be me, DH and Baby the first week and then have my Mom for a week and then have my MIL & FIL for a week. What is everyone else doing? Does that sound like a good plan? I figured this way I'd have some help for 3 weeks, but is that too much? I've heard from some people that they really wished they had just had some time with DH and Baby initially. I'm thinking I'd really like that, but then again, I've never had a baby before, so what do I know!?! elle

Guest guest
Elle, I think it would be nice to have one week just you, dh, and baby. We spent the first month or so of Daisy's life like that, and it was wonderful! I got to lay around in my nighgown and take naps with her--I wouldn't give that time up for anything! It does sound nice to have family around, if they are family thaqt you get along with (in my case that was a huge no Take care and good luck with your shower, DeeAnn > Both my Mom and then my MIL & FIL are planning on coming down after > the baby is born. Guest guest
Thanks DeeAnn! I think this is the plan we'll end up going with. Also, all of their plane tickets might be a little cheaper since they would have more notice than a spur of the moment ticket. That may be our reasoning with them, as I'm sure they won't be all that thrilled with our plan. Oh well............ Thanks again and Congrats again! elle > > Both my Mom and then my MIL & FIL are planning on coming down after > > the baby is born. DH is also going to take a week off. Guest guest
Elle - We are also planning to spend the first few weeks as a family, just the three of us! (strange to type it) I would prefer a whole month, but my due date is 3 weeks before Thanksgiving, so that seemed like a good time to be social again. Also, keep in mind that you may be late, and one week you have allocated to be alone with just your DH and the baby may disappear if your families are buying plane tickets in advance. If you tell them to come two weeks later, you may get a week to yourself. Have a good time at your shower, a

Guest guest
Elle, I am going to be on 6 weeks maternity leave and dh is taking off 3 weeks when the baby comes. My mil and grandmother live here, and they will come over if and when we need or ask for help. I am sure they will be here to see the baby alot, but she said that she would let me determine how much, if any help I needed. I really think that I am going to depend on dh, and am looking forward to alone time with him and the baby. My entire family lives in NY and we have scheduled the baby's baptism for Sept 30 (he will be 6-7 weeks old then) and my mom, step dad, brother, dad, stepmom, brother, grandparents, aunts and uncles are all coming from out of state for a week. I feel that by that time I will be better able to handle the visitors, but not right after the baby is home. I defenitely want alone time with him while he is a newborn and we are a new family. Have a good shower, can't wait to hear about it! Kim 37w, 6d
Guest guest
Thanks a! Fortunately none of them will even buy theor tickets until the baby is born since we really don't know when the birth will take place. So, this way they'll all still have 1-2 week notice on their purchases. I think spending some time just as a family sounds wonderful. We're very excited about that! And, yes...it is strange to type that! elle > Elle - > > We are also planning to spend the first few weeks as a family, just > the three of us! Guest guest
Kim, Lucky you to have DH home for 3 weeks! That will be wonderful! My DH will have 1 week and is saving the rest of his time for Christmas. I think your plan sounds terrrific! How nice to already have the baptism set up. We would either have to have ours at Christmas or else wait until the Spring sometime. I guess I need to work on that soon. Thanks! elle > Elle, > I am going to be on 6 weeks maternity leave and dh is taking off 3 > weeks when the baby comes. Guest guest
I think you'd be better off having no-one but you and dh and the baby for awhile, just until you get some confidence......if you have a hard time right now getting unwanted advice.....lets just say, post-partum, hormones...YIKES!!! You will probably bawl if anyone looks at you wrong, ok, at least I did. If you are on your own for a bit, you will know what your baby wants and how to best handle it, plus you are going to be sleep deprived....good luck!! Bob and I handled the kids on our own, I agree with DeeAnn, staying in your nightgown if you wanted to would have been nice. It would be nice if all you had to do was to take care of baby and someone else would cook and clean.... Guest guest
Elle, I think that is a good idea. I hadn't given it too much thought yet, but I think I would like to be just dh, baby and myself for a week. That would be nice. This way I could hang out and hopefully get myself in some kind of pattern and possible sleep when the baby is sleeping without having to worry about people being there. I know my in-laws want to come down for the birth if they can......and my mom and dad live like 20 mins. away, so we will see how things work out I guess.... -----

Guest guest
Thanks Vicki! We are going to go ahead with the plan of just DH, me and baby for the first week home. Then my Mom can come and then MIL & FIL. They all might not be too happy with that plan, but they'll get over it. I really think it will be better for them as far as the price of airline tickets too. Guest guest
Elle, That is hard to say. You could benefit either way. For me, both sets of parents live here. My inlaws are only 10 min away too. I told them that we don't have an extra bed so they can't spend the night..I figure that limits there time at my house and atleast I have the nights alone!! Even if you have company you will still have some alone time with you, baby and dh. You could always tell them to go out to eat or something? I am curious to hear how everyone else has replied!
