Guest guest
I am making another futile effort to post a group message. My son EThan is 11 years old and has been on the diet since 2/04. We are having a terrible time. He hates it and his seizures are worse than ever. Our doctor believes kids do better on the diet when they are off medicine. So, I perhaps I became overly eager in the weaning process. The last two lamictal reductions (12.5 grams 4 weeks ago and 12.5 grams one week ago) have correlated with a worsening of seizures. He has never had seizures that interferred with his ability to carry on at school during the day; now, I have kept him at home for 2 weeks, because he becomes unconsious and paralyzed for up to 30 minutes 3 times a day. (new and now only seizure type) Also, he has been so very very depressed. I think since a week has now gone by since his last lamictal decrease, he is happier (not so much crying); but the siezures have not improved. I see others have mentioned nutrasweet as a culprit. It is sort of ironic, but after denying him so much of the food he loves, I don't have the heart to take away his coveted sugar free jello twice a day. If there is anyone out there who has an older child on the diet, one who loves pizza, Easter candy and all the things 11 year olds like; or if there is anyone who has experience, advice or encouragement on medicine weans; or if there is anyone who has a shoulder I can cry on, please write! I'll try to do the same for you. Thanks. Gretchen
