Guest guest
Which companies are not paying their employees for the whole 24 shift. I think people should know who they are, so people looking for employment will stay away from them.

Guest guest
I haven't dealt with this in a while, but could someone direct me to a link possibly on the Wage and Hour law about meal and sleep deductions. Also if you do have meal/sleep deductions don't you need a written agreement with the employer, and employee to make it legal as a contract of sorts? From what I remember a verbal agreement wasn't good enough. Thanks in advance, Ron
Guest guest
Ron I have not researched this in a while , However if you are looking to reduce paid hours from 24, I do remember that paying 21 hrs paid was the safest deducting 1 hr for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And yes to have a signed agreement will help protect if push comes to shove w/ wage and hour board... Guest guest
Considering the fact that EMS is underpaid as it is, why would we even deduct 8 hrs for sleep. If you got to sleep in your own bed for 8 hrs I could understand. If it is required that you have to be away from your home those 8 hrs and it is deducted from your pay, they are ripping you off. Just my 2 cents worth

Guest guest
I could not convince myself to require an employee to be here 24 and not pay 24, consider the additional cost of your payroll department tracking all of the fractrile time sheets. Seems a real nightmare to implement. From Chuck's Blackberry RE: Meal and Sleep Deductions Hey there is still a 911 service that pays 16 out of 24. Sal --- " lwd7734@... Guest guest
In my opinion if you want to get into this business and run 24s, then pay the 24. If you do not like the idea of paying us to sleep then you are in the wrong business. You want us to do all your calls so you can collect all this money and you still want to take advantage of us by cheating us out of hours. The money you make from these calls is alot more than what we are being paid. Due to the liability involved in you using my patch it seems I should be paid at least 15-20 dollars per hour. Of course at this rate you would get an employee that would not be crying about anything, and would have to be top notch. Too bad there are some bad apples out there ruining it for the rest of us. Guest guest
Sal I agree with you on the paid 24 hour shifts, and I pay my guys the whole 24hr shift. On the $15-$20hr pay issue I would love to pay my guys that rate, THEY DESERVE IT!! However being a small private service with what I feel is quality equipment LP12's,Stryker Stretchers, Ect ,that is impossible with the reimbursement rates from Medicare and especially Medicaid at what they are...I know of many services that will pay 24 hr shifts but reduce the dollar amount if you work 24 vs 12 hr shifts kinda chicken S^$%T to me but it happens.... > > > > > Considering the fact that EMS is underpaid as it > > is, > > > why would we even deduct 8 hrs for sleep.
