Guest guest
Some of you may have notied that I've made some changes to my signature line the last few posts,I guess I should explain them. As you know Hubby has been on avastin with CPT-11/5Fu/Lv for about 3 months. We were very encouraged because he seemed to be feeling a little better.Well,we went for CT scans last week(5/20-21)and saw the onc the following day.It was not what we expected to hear. The scans all show significant progression of disease, liver function greatly compromised and his CEA is up to 1060.Other bloodwork is a mixed bag. Long story, short, the avastin failed to slow his progression of disease in any way so it was discontinued. The onc explained the limited options at this point and gave us a few days to think about it.Note, this onc called us on Sunday evening to check on him and ask if we had any questions before we made a decision the next day.(I can't say enough about how great this onc has been thru the whole ordeal!)Hubby has decided he wants to give the oxaliplatin(folfox)a try at this point. It scares the hell out of me because he has every contraindication in the book to this drug and is at an extreme risk for severe side effects.(Hence, why he did not do this treatment before).I have expressed my concerns to the onc and he assured me he would take him off of it at the first sign of negative effects because, afterall, the goal is QUALITY time. But,we(both me and the onc) have to support Hubby's choices in this.So......we will be at the cancer center all next week. He's scheduled to have a port(which he had previously refused) put in on tues. morning and begin the folfox regime on wed morning. As I said I just don't have a good feeling about this one and could really use some advice from those of you who've been on this treatment. Hugs & Prayers, H S/O 'Hubby'52,diagnosed 7/31/03 inoperable stage IV, 5/20/04 CT scans show significant progression of disease,CEA^1060, discontinued 3rd-line chemo(avastin/cpt-11/5fu/lv) Awaiting " Plan D "
