Guest guest
Thanks ! It is definitely a feeling of joy but I understand what you mean when you say " a bit sad " . I think any part of that I feel is more because she is getting older by the day and I miss a lot of the " baby days " that I truly enjoyed with both my girls. 's brace was a part of her baby days and in that I am just extremely grateful that thus far I can look back and be able to smile about the clubfoot treatment that she was lucky enough to recieve. Guest guest
She has been sleeping like an angel! She's so funny when she climbs into bed, she tosses herself all around with this huge smile each night as though she's still amazed at the pure thought of being able to put her feet anywhich way she wants them. You know the best part?! has not been a good napper for over 7 or so months now, I can't remember the last time she took a nap in her bed, that's how long it has been. She has'nt been wearing the brace for naps or any time during the day for a very long time, but she still refused to nap in her bed. She'd fall asleep in the car or on the couch sometimes, but never her bed. Today...................she took a 2 hour nap in her bed! She loves it! I'm not really sure what the difference is here, but I'm not saying a word. :-) The first morning after no brace was a bit strange. was happy to be out of the brace but she did'nt want me to put it away in her closet. She wants to keep it on her toy box right beside her bed for now. I think it had become a sort of comfort object for her after all these years. I really do think it's sweet though, she can keep it there as long as she wants. Thanks for asking about our first couple of nights! Guest guest
Wow...that is great! It must just be a terrific feeling for her to sleep however she wants. I'm just curious when she got older and into a bed. Did she sleep tummy down or on her back??? My son is 10 months old and the only way he'll sleep is tummy down (so despite the whole SIDS) so we let him sleep that way. I was wondering if his choice of sleep was due to the DBB. Glad to hear all is well and that she doesn't want to just toss her DBB into the trash:) > >Reply-To: nosurgery4clubfoot >To: <nosurgery4clubfoot > >Subject: Re: Re: is brace free! >Date: Wed, 12 Feb 2003 22:51:20 -0500 > >She has been sleeping like an angel! Guest guest
Holly, I know exactly what you mean. I'm actually dreading when Zoe will be all done with the shoes and bar. Sometimes, she doesn't want me to put them on, but it's because she wants to hug them and kiss them. They are a bit cozy because of the sheepskin car seat strap covers wrapped around the bar. I'm sure she will want to hold them for awhile, even if she doesn't have to wear them... I've really enjoyed reading your posts about this transition. I was going to wait to transfer Zoe to a big kid bed until the shoes were all done, but she might be close to three by then. Oh well, we'll figure it out... Guest guest
Hi Joanne, I wanted to wait as long as I could this time around to move to a big girl bed as well. It did'nt matter how long it took since she is our last child to use the crib, but after she turned two I noticed that because of the length of her bar on her shoes it was becoming difficult for her to turn over without banging her feet on the sides and sometimes getting her shoes wedged. I was'nt looking forward to switching to a big bed for quite awhile, I was affraid that she'd fall out and hurt herself not being able to manuver as well with the brace on and I also worried about her " wandering " around the house. My older daughter stopped using the crib at the same time (around 2 years 3 months) but she would call me in her room every morning to get her up anyway, is a lot more " curious " than was. As it turned out, once I moved her it was great! She had so much more room to be comfortable in bed, she did'nt wake up in the middle of the night from the noise of her shoes banging on the crib and she absolutely loved the thought of being a big girl. The wandering issue never happened either, she would call me just like her sister used to do, I was so happy that she rathered me still come and get her. Of course now, she gets up with her sister and they go down to watch cartoons in the mornings. Even with her brace, once she got older, she would slide backwards (we taught her to do this) feet first off the edge of her bed and then crawl out of her room to go watch T.V. The bed we chose was a good one also, just a regular twin bed,(actually it's quite old, it used to be my husbands sister's bed when she was a little girl and we sanded it, and painted it white) but with a head board and a foot board and then we placed a bumper guard on the side not against the wall and left a large gap at the end of the bed for her to be able to crawl out of. Anyway, regarding the other subject, did tell me yesterday that she likes not wearing her shoes to bed but she misses them. So, they remain by her bed on her toy box to keep her comparny as long as she wants! I can't wait to mention that to Dr. Ponseti one day, he's always telling me how so many parents are so concerned about the shoe brace part of the method, when for the most part it just becomes so routine. He sure was right when it came to ! :-) Holly and Re: Re: is brace free! > >She has been sleeping like an angel! Guest guest
, Once got old enough to turn herself over and over in her crib, I did'nt worry too much about her sleeping on her tummy. (She was already about 8 months when she went into the brace stage) She too liked to sleep on her tummy a lot with her brace when she was younger. As she got older she stopped sleeping on her tummy at all, I think she found a possition she liked the best ( on her side with her shoes sticking up in the air) and this was the possition of choice just about every single night. Guest guest
Hi Holly- Thought I would jump in here because we just went down last month to 12 hours a day and it is fabulous! We went from 16 down to 12 hours just after my son had been standing for about 3 weeks unassited. He starting walking right after we moved him down to 12 hours so it was perfect timing. 12 hours seems like nothing because he sleeps 11 at night. So we put them on 1/2 hr before bed and keep them on for 1/2hour after he waks up. He is 10 months now. > " >Reply-To: nosurgery4clubfoot >To: nosurgery4clubfoot >Subject: Re: is brace free! >Date: Sun, 16 Feb 2003 18:20:28 -0000 > >Holly, > >Much congratulations to you and !!! Guest guest
Holly, Thanks for your story about transitioning your daughter to a big girl bed. I love to read/hear about how it went for other people. There are so many transitions during the second and third year! Scary! My daughter will have to potty train, go to daycare, move to a big girl bed and say good bye to the shoes and bar in the next year. I thought we were also going to have to do the pacifier thing, but she surprised me and did it " cold turkey " (with a lot of prior coaching). Anyway, I'm sure there's a Potty training listserve out there. I may have to join it... Take care! Joanne W. :-) Holly and _________________________________________________________________ Add photos to your messages with MSN 8. Guest guest
Theresa, I read your post after I had written to Joanne and was hoping you would catch my post also! I ran out of time and could'nt rewrite to answer your post that day. It really worked great for us and I was so glad I decided to switch her a bit earlier than I wanted to initially. Someone else had mentioned (I think and ) that they put a baby gate up in the doorway of their child's room at night. I was planning on doing that if I needed to also so that I did'nt have to worry about wandering. As luck had it, turned out to be like my oldest and decided to call me every morning:-) I hope Dylan's transition goes smoothly if you decide to go ahead!
Let me know how it goes:-) Holly and Re: Re: is brace free! >> > >> >She has been sleeping like an angel! Guest guest
Hi Holly, I can't remember exactly how old was when we went down to 12 hours. We were having some problems though, her one foot was way over corrected and not turning back to neutral like the other one was starting to. She was dragging her foot a lot also when she walked behind her walker toy, so she must have been around 14 or 15 months old. She probably was only at the 14-16 hours a day stage for about 5 months total because of this and then we had to adjust the one shoe on the bar inward a little and decrease her use of the brace down to 12 hours. After we did this, she had no problems and her foot reacted really well. We stayed at 12 hours for about another year and 9 months and never had any problems with anything after that. Dr. Ponseti wants me to send pictures in 6 months, but my husband and I want to take a trip out to Iowa sometime this summer just to make sure things are going well without the brace. By the sounds of it we are planning possibly around the same time (June or maybe July) so I'll let you know as it gets closer and maybe we can meet up again! Thanks for the congrats!
