Guest guest
I thought the display was very powerful--particularly for the high-school/college-aged crowd. Although naming the person who caused the accident is an emotional outlet from the family, because of the Spanish surname, some people of Mexican-American heritage may find it offensive (i.e., conjures the image of a drunken, tequila-drinking stereotype). That caught my eye--because of my heritage I guess. Overall, I think it was well-done and we owe a thanks to the family for a glimpse at the most horrible thing that one could possible endure--loss of all of your children in one brief instant. We will share the positive with the family, negative we will use to make recommendations for improvement. I do want to make clear that this is a project strongly supported by the parents who lost their children. Mr. and Mrs. Lindsey want to do all that they can to help prevent this tragedy from happening to someone else. To the person who told the personnel at the booth that " you people disgust me and make me sick " , rest assured that you are no more disgusted and sick than the EMS, Fire and Law personnel that worked this scene. Guest guest
I have been in EMS for over 17 years, and I am also retired from the military with over 20 years of service. That display at conference was one of the most powerful I have ever seen. This includes displays for 9/11, and a select few. This should be seen by all of our youth and other high risk adults. I am thankful the family shared this tragic moment with all of us at conference. I know it impacted me greatly, it one of those you never forget, and that is how it should be. My sympathy for the family, and I thank them. Yours Truly W. Compliance Officer Bay Star Ambulance This message created by: W. --------------------------------- Yahoo! Guest guest
, I agree with you 100 percent. Having treated hundreds of critically injured people mauled by drunk drivers over my 30 years as an ER doctor, I have always wanted to share the grief they caused with those who would perpetrate such tragedies. The USA is altogether too soft on drunk drivers. In Sweden if you are caught diving while drunk, your license is taken away for life. Drunk drivers kill with just as much forethought as a murder intent on taking a life. It is not an accident. Such tragedies are the predictable consequences of irresponsible decisions. No one makes you drive after having a drink. My 29-year-old son was almost killed by a drunk driver. After spending over 9 months in the hospital and almost two years in rehab, he began to put his life back together. Having to learn all over again to tie his shoes and add 2 + 2 gave his family heartaches beyond belief. A few months after he regained consciousness, my son told me he wished he had not been plucked from the twisted metal and just left there to die, rather than having to go through the pain of a shattered mind, body and life. If laws and accountability will not help stem this terrible carnage, then maybe displays like the one sponsored by MADD at the EMS conference in Austin, will at least make more folks aware of this crime. Who is going to be responsible to stop this totally preventable devastation?
