I was not told of any diets or other things to do before surgery; other than go for blood work 2 days prior. Just curious. Hi, - This is a good question for the doctors, the anesthesiologist in particular. You may want to read the article at http://www.uchospitals.edu/news/1998/19981020-spudstudy.html which indicates that eating nightshades (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, etc.) can prolong anesthetic action and might best be avoided for a few days before surgery. I would suggest getting lots of rest, drinking lots of water, eating lightly and taking care of chores that would normally need to be done in the week or so after the surgery. Oh, yes. And get a neck pillow. Personally, I prefer the u-shaped ones, but lots of folks like the dog bone or neck roll types. - NYC
