Guest guest
Hi everyone. I have been on the ap since February of this year. I have experienced several flares - mostly due to changing the dosage. Anyway, I have been having a herx for the past week and a half and I've noticed that while the minocycline has helped alot of the fibro it seems to have the opposite effect on the morphia. During this last herx the morphia has increased quite a bit (on my face). Anyway, I don't know if this is a good thing or not? I am currently on 100 mg of minocycline Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Thanks for listening... Trish
Guest guest
Hello Trish, It's common for the minocycline to appear to accelerate the course of the disease. Do you have a copy of " The New Arthritis Breakthrough " by Henry Scammell? There is a scleroderma patient's story there whose disease appeared to be greatly accelerated once she started the antibiotic. This is part of the herxheimer reaction. Morphea responds to the antibiotic in the same way. Keep going on the antibiotics, make sure you're eating plenty of fresh vegetables, little or no sugar, at least eight glasses of water a day, a good vitamin/mineral supplement and plenty of acidophilus to keep the gut flora in good shape. This therapy takes a long time and the course is one of many ups and down, the " three steps forward, two steps backward " progression which is the way it goes. We are here to support you while you go through this rather frustrating time. Let us know how you are getting on and we'll give you all the support we can. My daughter has systemic scleroderma and has been on antibiotic for four and a half years now. It has been both encouraging and frightening at times, but she hung in there with the antibiotics and now things are really looking up for her. Chris.
