Guest guest
Thank you for your concern and, just so you know, my name is Shanna--- my real name. To answer your question, my husband and I had a blood-allergy test done on Argyle (our son, 2YO ASD). I was expecting him to have a zillion allergies like other children I had heard of, but he was just milk and eggs. As far as the symptoms go, I don't really know what caused what because we had the allergy test done during the time we were implementing the CF/GF diet (for the first time). I also couldn't tell if removing the eggs from his diet caused any change in behavior. Nonetheless, egg allergy can cause anaphalaxis and I don't want to take that chance. Because we are vegetarian, the SCD was hard to start. I did finally get rid of all illegals and I decided to follow the rules and not give him any beans just yet. I also figured out how to cook the fruit-- just put it on the stove and stir. I bought a yogurt machine and my first batch is fermenting as we speak. I also bought an electric soymilk maker for making good quality nut milks, a convenience item but very cool! About the protein issue (don't get me started!!), we live in a country where politics effect (infect) policy. Whole departments are all but controlled by special interests. The looming presence of U.S. based multinational corporations hangs heavily on " government " offices such as the U.S.D.A., F.D.A., and E.P.A., influencing regulations and recommendations issued by those departments. Questionable policies allow corporate higher-ups to accept high- ranking beaurocratic positions in order to push their private agendas, then return to the company from whence they came. Such stealthy means are not often neccessary, as our government is very friendly towards big business. Most often, business interests can get what they want by either putting on the pressure or by working hand in hand with the government. For example, the U.S. R.D.A.s were created in close collaberation and with much input from the food industries-- meat, dairy, grain, and agriculture. Still today the industries lobby and fight against citizens groups in order to keep control over what the government recommends we eat. Very few people know this, but the Food Pyramid was actually designed by the dairy industry, as were the nutritional education materials are children are given in school. The Food Pyramid and it's like, disguised as public service messages, are actually just marketing tactics employed by greedy industries who want your money. Materials such as these should be veiwed as industry propaganda and not as actual information relevant to your health. Don't take my word for it, though---- search the subject online. So back to the protein issue.... because of intense political pressure, the U.S. R.D.A. for protein is very high. Alternative sources of information place our protein needs much lower. I have read everything available from both sides and have come to the opinion that we don't require quite as much protein as the meat and dairy industries would like us to believe. Just to be safe though, I feed him lots of nuts and protein-rich vegetables. His doctor says his growth is ok and he shows no signs of protein deficiency. I guess that's all.
