Guest guest
I don't think the brace holds them back. Isabella is 3 1/2 months and is rolling over. I just think it depends on the child. My other two girls who didn't have clubbed feet rolled over after 4 months so Isabella was before them and she has bilateral clubbed feet. So i just think it depends on the child. I am sure she will do all those milestones when she is good and ready or she may just walk and skip the other milestones. We stand Isabella up on her feet and her feet are straight but when she is laying down they fall in the overcorrected position. I am sure all the wonderful people here will help answer your questions. Good luck. Guest guest
When your granddaughter is ready, the DBB won't hold her back. She'll crawl, roll over and even stand. The " duck " position is very normal. It's called overcorrection and is needed in order to keep the feet, well, corrected after all that casting. Most everyone on this e-mail list has gone through everything you've described and it's all perfectly normal. I'm sure other's with more experience will have more detailed answers for you, but rest assured, your grand daughter will be just fine. Guest guest
I think just about everyone that has gone through this had the same worries as you and your grand daughter's parents. Do not worry as her feet will not stay that way. They will go into a " normal " position once she begins to stand and walk. When my daughter, who just turned one Jan. 5th, was at your grand daughter's age I was wondering the same as you. " How is she going to learn to turn over with those braces on! " Well, she did! Probably around the 5-6 month age. Shortly after that she began to start to learn to crawl, around the 7 month age. Then around the 8 month age she began to stand. By this time she was in the brace part time. Around 9 months is when she began to walk. She in my opinion started early on a lot of this. My first daughter, who doesn't have club feet, didnt' start walking until she was around 13 or 14 months. She skipped the crawling stage. So all kids develope differently as I am sure you know, but rest assured the brace doesn't slow down the developement process at all! Oh, and Breanna's feet are now at the " normal " stage. They aren't turned out at all and she is wearing the DBB at night now. I am sure others will share their experiences and help to calm your worries. Sincerely, & Breanna " nikiandvito wrote:My grand daughter is 5 months old and wears the shoes with the brace 23 hours a day. The doctor said she should keep it on until she stands. Guest guest
Niki, I do want to add to what everyone has already said. My son Jakob will turn 5 in a couple weeks and has been done with the brace for almost 17 months (how time has flown) and you'd never believe anything was different about him now. He rolled over 1 time while in the casts (ok, so he was also laying on our bed at the time), but didn't do it again until he was about 7 months old. He was sitting up at 6 months and I have pictures of him pulling to a stand at about the same time. He didn't crawl until nearly 11 months and took off really walking just shy of 19 months. Now, he keeps up with all the kids in our playgroup and one of the other moms commented that he can skip better than she could at this same age. Guest guest
Hello Please don't worry about your grand daughter she will be just fine. she will trun over and crawl and even walk and run when the time is right for her. My grand son is 10 months old and he is just starting to scoot/crawl he starting sitting at about 6 to 7 months and he was rolling over from his back to his tummy at about 3-4 months and then from his tummy to his back at about 5 months he has just starting standing as well he was a little bit behind some kids and a little bit a head of others in learning these tasks but each child will learn and do these things at their own rate and in their own time.
