Guest guest
Marcy, She needs to try and drink more water and bless her heart try and get some rest. I bet she is running herself ragged with her baby being in the NICU. See if these things help and if not then there is a drug that her doc can prescribe I think that helps the milk production. Also have her talk to the lactation consultant at the hospital and they can really guide her with getting her production back on track. Hope this helps! :-) Hugs Merry Shaw breastfeeding question Hi all, I have a breastfeeding question. I have a friend who was due on December 18th, and ended up having her baby 3 weeks ago. He is in the NICU, and she is pumping so she can keep her milk supply going so she can breastfeed him when he is up to it. Sbe was pumping well for awhile, about an ounce from each breast every 3 hours, and now for some reason cant get even a portion of that. She was getting 60 cc's from each breast, and is now only getting about 10 from both. She is using a hospital grade pump, and said that was working well. And is now worried that her production is dropping, and in only a matter of hours. She also says that she is pumping until dry, and then for 5 minutes after that to keep the stimulation going. Does anyone have any suggestions for this type of situation. I know this isnt about me, but I told her I would ask all of you because you all have such good ideas. Thanks in advance! Guest guest
Hey Marcy, I don't know how I missed your original post! You friend sounds like me! ) Is she pumping at the hospital? That really helps. Also, have her look at a picture of her baby while she's pumping...unless that causes her stress. Mother's Milk Tea is great...also fenugreek. She can get it at B-Alive or a's. It was so hard to keep up with eating and drinking enough while in the NICU because you can't eat/drink in there. So, make sure she's leaving every hour and eating and drinking. It's so hard to leave...but, mamma is the only one that can provide that liquid gold! Is she at the main hospital? If so, I think she can get meal tickets for the cafeteria for her since she's breastfeeding. That will help her budget. Her little one is getting EXCELLENT care...so, since she's made BF a priority (which is wonderful!!!), she has to take care of her needs. Marcy, you are welcome to pass on my email address to her. It really helped me to talk to people who'd been down the road I was about to travel. ) How is the little one doing? Children's Hospital is great! He's in great hands. ) I'm praying for your friend. ) Jordan's SAHMommy ( in California) breastfeeding question Hi all, I have a breastfeeding question. Guest guest
Thank you Merry! She has an appt today with both her doctor and the lactation consultant at the hospital. I will mention the water and I knew there was a drug, but I thought I had read about two of them on this list? One was the Reglan which I was under the impression is a LAST resort, and there was one other, but I cant remember the name. Thanks for the help! I really appreciate it.
