Guest guest
Hi, my new dietitian is thinking of decreasing Kristan's fluid to try to get her ketones higher. She currently can have 200 ml of water throughout the day. Here's the confusing part, she said to give her Koolaid, take a 1/4 teaspoon from a packet of regular koolaid and mix with 500 ml of water and add sweetner to taste. How is this restricting her fluid intake? She's getting more Koolaid than water? She also said Koolaid is a " free drink " on the diet. Help! ******* Satnam, mom to Kristan, 14 months Keto kid since August 2003
Guest guest
RESTRICTION is the amount of fluids in a day Is your dietitian giving you ideas for a water substitute--thinking in restricting fluids, she is trying to make sure your child gets enough WATER intake Did she mean 1/4 of pkg? The directions on the koolaid(we never have used kool-aid--kept away artificial stuff)--it says add the pkg to 2000ml--for 8 servings therefore 1/4 pkg--to 500 ml--making less koolaid at a time--(2 servings per directions but only 200 ml per day per the diet) check tsp or pkg?? Plus this Kool-aid is it Sugar-Free--Confused when you say Regular Koolaid Also, what is her weight and other " stats " --weight, ratio, calories, etc Sometimes it is not the fluid but calories,-too little or too many, the ratio, timing of the meals, or some hidden ingredient in a particular food that is eaten Sandi

Should at a minimum equal the amount of calories she gets per day which I assume is more than

Guest guest
Hi Sandi, I think the dietitian is suggesting the koolaid to make sure Kristan gets enough water intake. I'm pretty sure she said 1/4 teaspoon and I'm sure she said regular Koolaid. I thought she said the regular koolaid is sugar free as she said to add sweetner to it. I am waiting for her to get back to me and then I will ask her again. I will double check everything, before I try it. Kristan's weight is 10.495 kilos, she's on a 4:1 ratio, 46 cal/kg; 463.5 kcal/day; 1.325 cho/day; 11.99 g protein/day; 53.32 g fat/day. The dietitian plans to increase Kristan's calories, she's figuring out a new ratio/plan right now and will get back to me. ******* Satnam, mom to Kristan, 14 months Keto kid since August 2003 > RESTRICTION is the amount of fluids in a day > Is your dietitian giving you ideas for a water substitute-- thinking in > restricting fluids, she is trying to make sure your child gets enough WATER intake > Did she mean 1/4 of pkg? > The directions on the koolaid(we never have used kool-aid--kept away > artificial stuff)--it says add the pkg to 2000ml--for 8 servings therefore 1/4 > pkg--to 500 ml--making less koolaid at a time--(2 servings per directions but only > 200 ml per day per the diet) > check tsp or pkg?? > Plus this Kool-aid is it Sugar-Free--Confused when you say Regular Koolaid > Also, what is her weight and other " stats " --weight, ratio, calories, etc > Sometimes it is not the fluid but calories,-too little or too many, the > ratio, timing of the meals, or some hidden ingredient in a particular food that > is eaten > Sandi > > >
Guest guest
Hi , I'm sorry, that does sound confusing, Kristan mostly gets her fluid from Keto-Cal formula, she gets four, 7 ounce bottles and in addition can have 200mls of water throughout the day. If she gets a meal, then one of her bottles is replaced with the meal and she can have 200 ml of water with the meal, but is still allowed to have the other 200 ml of water spread out in the day. Kristan's calories for the day are 463.5. Satnam > > > Hi, my new dietitian is thinking of decreasing Kristan's fluid to try > > > > to get her ketones higher.
