Guest guest
, I'd probably say something about the diet being recommended by the neuro, but it needs to be administered and overseen by a registered, licensed dietician. The diet is constantly being adjusted and fined tuned. That is not a neuros specialty (adjusting ratios and given diet recommendations). If the neuro did this for us, it would cost $2,000 per hour instead of the much smaller fees the dieticians charge us. Good Luck! Jim Regitz jim.regitz@... Insurance denies dietician coverage I was looking for some ideas on wording for an appeal to our insurance company. Our dietician f/u has been denied because our plan only covers diabetic counseling. We initiated the diet with a different insurance company. I know from past experience that I need to be cautious in the words that I choose. My neurologist has already sent me a letter to submit. His is short and two the point. I am not sure why I have to provide a letter as well. Probably another step so the less likely a person will appeal!! Any help with wording would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Rice

Guest guest
- my .02 cents............... write the letter " from the heart. " Share with them the dangers of " if something goes wrong. " The docs do not have the expertise to make quick adjustments to the mealplans, like the dietitians do. Registered dietitians are food experts, neurologists are not. Let them know that this is not a simple " do not eat this...... do eat that.... " kind of diet. Explain that every bite of food it critical for seizure control and the precision is essential. Let them know that a mealplan that is slightly off could result in a status seizure and an ER visit, not to mention brain damage(don't come out and say it, but let them know that liability issues could exist). Don't hold back. I would LOVE to proof your letter and offer suggestions (can you tell this issue rubs me a little wrong!. Guest guest
Doesn't Dr Freeman have a sample letter about the diet for ins companies in his book? We don't work under that system here in New Zealand - all hospital care for things like the keto diet are under our public health system, but I do remember seeing mention of it in there somewhere?? ----- Original Message ----- > , > > I'd probably say something about the diet being recommended by the neuro, but it needs to be administered and overseen by a registered, licensed dietician. Guest guest
-Our insurance denied coverage, too. Our doctor had to call the company personally. If you can't get coverage, maybe you could purchase the keto program the dieticians use. My husband wrote the program we use, and it is wonderful having the flexibility to constantly alter amounts depending on what we have on hand and what my son wants. -- In ketogenic , " Rice " <srice@c...> wrote: > I was looking for some ideas on wording for an appeal to our insurance > company.
