Hi. Does anyone have experience with diastat? Is it addictive, have

reduced effect, make the body respond with shaking, stop working, or

any other info you can share would be helpful. What can we expect to

see if we do not use it? How do we ride the storm to get away from

it? And is there anyway the body finds another way to cope with a

seizure? Wow....it seems to be making things worse for Logan when we

do use it.

Logan is 2 and weighs 29 lbs 13 oz. How much melatonin would he need

for sleep and what is a good brand?

As always...thank you...

Laurie

We have diastat for Langan and have used it. We have the 2.5 mg dosage. I

think there is also a 5 mg dose.

I think there are different opinions out there on when to use it. We were

told initially to use it for any seizure longer than 5 minutes. Langan's

now last longer than that, so we were told to use it for any seizure over 10

minutes.

When we were using it several times a week, I really thought that it caused

more problems than it helped. It did stop the seizures (or at least they

stopped after we used it) but they seemed to come more frequently. When we

broke the cycle of using it, it seemed like the seizures became less

frequent.

We were warned that the body could get immune to it but that it would take

several doses a day for that to happen. I don't know if that's true or not

b/c we've never given it that frequently.

I am not a diastat fan but I have to say that it was a life saver on one

occasion last year. After an antibiotic shot, Langan had a scary, different

seizure that just would not stop. It was our first time using the diastat

and I hate to think what would have happened if we had not had it with us.

Langan's seizure lasted almost 20 minutes and she had Todd's paralysis

after. So I do think it has its uses!

I hope this helps and I hope things improve with your little one!
