Guest guest
Hi Diane, Welcome to the group! You have done wonderful in your weight loss. I might be going out on a limb here, but I dont see why if you are otherwise healthy, why you would have to wait the full 18 months to try and conceive if you have reached your weight loss goal. I'm glad to hear that you would want to make sure your nutritional levels were good first. Good luck in reaching your goal, and just try to be patient until you can start trying. Again, welcome to the group. Marcy Wallis edd 12/08/02 Baby Boy!!! Mom to a beautiful 8 yr old daughter (PRE WLS) Introduction Hi everyone, My name is Diane, and I'm new to this board. I had WLS 5/14/02 and have so far gone from a size 24 to tight 14. I joined this group because of my desire to have another baby. In fact, having a baby was the biggest reason I decided to have this surgery. I had stopped having my periods because I was getting so big. I already have a 2 year old daughter, she's wonderful. I've been having major baby fever lately, though. My sister-in-law is due in October, my good friend in February, and my best friend is currently trying after a miscarriage. I know the doctor's advised it is best to wait 12-18 months after surgery to get pregnant, but I'm dying to start sooner. I have about 30 pounds more to lose. My husband agreed that if the doctor okayed getting pregnant, that we would...but not until then. It's hard for me to deal with, because I'm pretty sure my surgeon will make me wait at least until next May. I'm hoping that once I reach my goal weight (another few months) that my nutritional levels will be good enough to start trying. Anyway, I joined this group to see how others are dealing with their pregnancies at all stages after WLS. I am hoping it will better prepare me for when my turn comes. Hopefully soon. I probably won't post much, but will enjoy reading all yours... Nice to meet you all, Diane

I'm hoping I'll be an exception to the rule Thanks for the warm welcome, and congrats on you expected Diane Introduction Hi everyone, My name is Diane, and I'm new to this board. Guest guest
Diane, I think that you could be an exception. I mean, they have the guidelines for a reason obviously, but there are a lot of people who lose their weight and reach goal sooner then others, and sooner then those guidelines. I would however really try to make your doctor understand or at least let him explain HIS reasons for WHY you should wait, if thats what he feels you should do. You really hit the nail on the head though by saying you want to make sure you are nutritionally ready. If you have reached your goal, and you are maintaining your weight, and your labs are all fine, then I see no reason why you would have to wait the whole 18 months. I AM not a doctor though, and am not trying to give advice, I am just trying to say, that you might just be the exception to the rule. Most important, is to research research research, like you are doing now, and as long as you go into it with your eyes open, then you should be just fine. Good luck!
