185 MBq equals 5mCi

370 MBq equals 10 mCi

3700 MBq dose is equivalent to 100 mCi

37 billion disintegrations (MBq's) per second is equal to 1000 mCi.

Alan,

If I may share some history...

The units are actually MBq for millions of Becquerels, named after the French

scientist Henri Antoine Becquerel who discovered that uranium salts expose

photographic film. One Becquerel is one disintegration per second. A

distintegration is one atom changing into another with the release of radiation.

The units mCi are for one-thousandth of a Curie named after Pierre and Marie

Curie

who discovered the naturally occuring radioactive elements polonium and radium.

One Curie is the radioactive intensity of one gram of radium --37 billion

disintegrations per second or 1000 mCi. In 1921 Marie Curie journeyed to the

United States where President Warren Harding presented her with a gram of

radium!

(I think the NRC is still trying to track down President Harding so they can

levy

a big fine on him.) The Curie holds the distinction of being the only scientific

unit named at least in part after a woman, which is why I'll never switch to

using

Becquerels.
