Have you heard of people with rhythm disturbances developing Glaucoma??

I have just been diagnosed-

I have something called enlarged cupping- damage to my optic nerves (both eyes)

Heard of glaucoma in patients with a fib??

see below:

Normal Tension Glaucoma (NTG)

Normal tension glaucoma is also known as low tension glaucoma or normal

pressure glaucoma. In this type of glaucoma, the optic nerve is damaged

even though intraocular pressure (IOP) is not very high. Doctors do not

know why some people's optic nerves are damaged even though they have what

is considered to be " normal " (between 12-22 mm Hg) pressure levels.

Those at higher risk for this form of glaucoma are people with a family

history of normal tension glaucoma, people of Japanese ancestry, and people

with a history of systemic heart disease, such as irregular heart rhythm.

Normal tension glaucoma is usually detected after an examination of the

optic nerve.

Anyone else here have this??? I am curious-

-Ronnie

**************

Ronnie, I have " cupping " of my optic nerves. I am followed by an

ophthalmologist from Wills Eye Hospital who specializes in glaucoma.

(A very sweet young doc who somewhat resembles Keanu Reeves!) He says

that I don't have glaucoma, but because my mother does, he wants to

keep an eye (ha!) on me. So I don't get any treatment for it, just

various tests and an exam by him every six months.

But I had been told by a different doctor, probably 10 years

ago, that I had " suspicious " optic nerves, and after I passed a

visual field test, I just never followed up with it until recently.

I've only had afib for 2 1/2 years, so don't think the two are

related but I will ask my doc when I see him July.

Ronnie, I forgot to ask you what kind of treatment you are getting? I

know my mother just uses eye drops.
