My husband is on Avastin. He is currently taking it with 5FU Leucovorin and

Oxilaplatin.

He has a 46 hour pump for the 5FU and most of the side effects such as mouth

sores seem to come from that. He has had some nausea on chemo day which may be

the Avastin but he gets it with Oxilaplatin too.

I will be interested to see how things go once the Oxilaplatin is removed in

Sept. Currently it sends him to bed for the day with chemo induced chills and

muscle aches.

Nickie- I am sorry that your dad is having some abdominal

discomfort. I am not on Avastin yet, but I have found that when I

have had abdominal cramping from a variety of medications, lorazipam

was the most helpful. I always had a problem with esophageal reflux

for a long time before my diagnosis, but it increased when I was

placed on chemotherapy, so I am now on a double dose of Previcid

which helps control that.

My thoughts and prayers are with you both. I hope things start

improving for your Dad soon.

Best wishes,

Kris

Nickie: Bentyl helps on the cramps. The mets cause pain and depending on

your

tolerance there are various medications to assist with this. The intestines

sometimes

breakdown and you have to go off the med for a while and start overagain

later. We

fond smaller amounts of food, more frequently, help. Fresh fruits and

vegetables and

spices were a no no for us. Water with meals or right afterwards, sodas and

seltzers were no no's also. We found the jr baby foods and fruit juices were

good and vitamin

water helped. Caffine was monitored and Nick had his foods not pureed but

semi solid

for digestive practises. He had liver mets. a perotoneal mass, a mass on the

tip of

the pancreas and in the end a lot more spots on the lungs than previously

indicated.

He was fortunate his B/p and cholesterol levels were normal(actually B/P was

;low

he had no diabetes but he had a bit of artritis, not that it really impeded

him to begin with. The Avastin caused him to have small nose bleeds, and a few

hours after he

received his treatment he became very floid but that lasted about 12 hours.

He was

on proscar and had no trouble urinating and the pain med had a second

benefit,he

had no lose stools. But the xeloda side effects are just as you mentioned

and perhaps

they were heightened with the addition of the Avastin. hang tough, things

will get better and hopefully you can relax for a bit. Hugs, prayers and may the

faith that

moves mountains,move yours. Jane
