Guest guest
Hi Lynn, First let me say, I am sorry to hear that you are going through this scary diagnosis. Believe me, we all know how it feels to suddenly be told that you are not 'normal'. I also have a UU (left sided). I can't offer any advice in regards to IVF as I was one of the lucky few who seems to be able to conceive naturally, however I can tell you that I have spoken to many UUérs in the last couple of years who have gone through IVF and had great success. In addition, I can also offer a success story of my own. I carried my son (now 2 yrs) to 35 weeks without the help of a cerclage or any other special treatment. I am now 16 weeks pregnant with my 2nd, and so far, it has been a completely normal pregnancy. While I wouldn't be surprised if this baby arrives early, I do feel confident that I will once again have a successful pregnancy. There are plenty of success stories out there! And now that you know about your problem, you are at an advantage in that the doctors will know to monitor you extra carefully once you do become pregnant. Many UUers are unaware of their problem when they first become pregnant, and don't receive the essential extra care that could have helped to prevent tradgedy. Best wishes, , UU > Hi All, > > Just got back from the doctor today where he confirmed that I have a > Unicornuate Uterus. Yes I asked him about five times if it was > really, really a UU, like he was going to say, " okay, you got me, > it's not really a UU " > > With that being said, we also found out that IVF is our only option > because my right tube is blocked at the ovary and, of course, since > I don't have the left side of my uterus at all, the left ovary is in > the wrong place and the tube is attached to nothing. > > Would love some inspiration right now as I contemplate IVF. Any > pregnancy/baby success stories from women with a UU would be greatly > appreciated. > > Also, how many of you with UU's were also diagnosed with a kidney > problem? > > Thanks so much! > Lynn
Guest guest
Hi Lynn I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis and IVF being your only option. I also have a UU, I had no idea though until I had PROM just shy of 31 weeks. My uterus is on my right side. We were lucky and fell pregnant on our second month of trying. Now that I know more about UU I am left feeling amazing blessed that we fell pregnant so quickly and that it went on complication free as long as it did. I had no issues at all apart from PROM. Once my waters broke I went straight to hospital. Labour was stopped, I didn't dilate at all. I was then admitted to a ward for bedrest. To stay there until I gave birth. One doctor in L & D told me statistics showed that most women give birth within a week once PROM has occured. Another doctor wanted me to make it to 36 weeks! I was allowed up, to shower etc. I leaked continously as my waters just kept on regenerating, it was annoying but left me feeling relieved as well knowing Ruby was not in a dry environment. Things went fine for a few days but 4 days later labour started again and 8 hours after it really kicked in (I ended up fully dilating) Ruby was born via an Emergency C'Section. She was born at 31 weeks and 1 day. She weighed 1650 grams and we were lucky as she came out breathing. She is a very healthy little girl and her only health issue was Reflux. I am not even sure how bad that is anymore for her, not very I think. For the most part she is a happy sweet baby. Good luck Lynn! I wish you all the best. Let me know if you have any questions.
