Guest guest
Janet: I have been on Viokase for several years. And I've recently added a bit of Creon in an attempt to quell the daily diarrhea. There has been something that worked on the diarrhea very well. That is Questran powder. It absorbs the free-flowing bile that in my GI tract. Of course, there have been side effects, but most have been very well managed. -Ellen

Guest guest
Janet, I take the health food store variety and I have not had my blood work checked since I started them 2 months ago. So I have no clue. But I would guess, and this is just guessing, that taking these enzymes would not cause any false elevations as the breakdown of the enezymes appear to be in the small intestines I believe, thus resting the pancreas a bit. So I don't think it would have a big impact on the blood results as far as making them not accurrate. Please someone out there, correct me if I am worng ! Guest guest
It's interesting in that Metamucil helps both constipation and diarrhea. For my nonstop diarrhea, I've relied on Questran powder for years. And, yes, it can constipate. So I've been on what I refer to as the " doody seesaw " for years, teetering between meds to counteract meds. I have to plan my days around the toilet and often stay at home out of fear of having " accidents. " I'm about to turn fifty-one and I can make poopy in my pants without warning. I'm very fortunate to have a husband who has been there to clean me up. He still giggles and thinks it's cute and hilarious. I still cry. Guest guest
Janet, It´s very strange that ranitidine gave you heartburn, because this drug it´s for reflux and ulcer, to stop heartburn. I used this. Sorry, but X ray is not good for a ulcer dx. I also think that you done a H. pylori test, this bacteria may causes stomach ulcer. I had it. The more realiable test for this is a upper GI endoscopy, to look inside your body. I done close to ten. Apart from pancreatitis I also have esophagitis, hiatal hernia, reflux and a surgery called fundoplication that never worked. Metamucil, if I´m not wrong it´s for constipation not for diarrhea. I´m on enzymes but sometimes appear to be not effective to controll my diarrhea bouts and pain. It will be good for you, check with a GI doctor, what´s really wrong with you, sometimes digestive problems are difficult to get a definite dx. I hope this help. Good Luck, Liane > Well just thought I'd keep you all posted. Guest guest
Every once in a while my significant other will decide that a big hamburger with lots of fries is just the thing to eat in front of me (all accompanied by the appropriate noises of pleasure and enjoyment). There are times when, if I had the energy, I would kick him in the shins. It's probably best for both of us (and his legs) that I don't have enough energy to waste on that.
Guest guest
Oops.... Heidi, I didn't answer you on dosage. Each enzyme product is a little different.... but if I were you, I'd probably start with about 1/4 of a capsule, mixed into liquid or food (food can't be above about body temp or you'll kill the enzymes)... and work up gradually from there to maybe one full capsule per meal. You give them prior to each meal. Patti digestive enzymes Hi, Here's a question regarding digestive enzymes. My daughter is having reflux problems while on the diet and is currently taking Prilosec twice a day which helped for a few weeks. She started gagging at meal times again a few days ago, which is resulting in vomiting several times a day. Does anyone else have problems like this and what do you do about it? Can anyone tell me where to find digestive enzymes and what dosage should I give her - she weighs about 33 lbs and is 4 years old. Thanks, Heidi, future occupational therapist and single mom to (IS, Severely/Multiply Impaired) and twin brother, (4 years), and big sis Madison (almost 6!). Guest guest
', It would be very easy to give digestive enzymes through the j tube. You would dissolve the digestive enzymes in water (dissolves immediately) and then give it through the tube. Flush the tube with 20-30ml of water and then give the KetoCal formula. Rhonda Hi everyone, I have not been on this list long but am learning a lot from all of you, thanks. My son has been on the diet since March 9 and is doing quite well although I know he is suffering from reflux. I test his stomach acids with a ph stick and it is consistently between 1-1.5. He had this problem before starting the diet and is on Zantac and Prilosec, neither is working. Now he is making a chewing motion with his mouth as if something is coming up, but has not vomited. I would love to try the digestive enzymes but am wondering if I can because has a g/j tube. He gets all his feedings in his j tube, although he has a port going to his g, and one goes through his stomach right to his jejunum. Can the enzymes be used for kids who have a g/j tube? He is on KetoCal formula. Thanks, ' Mom to 5 years old; Lissencephaly, seizures, reflux, cp, keto kid since 3/9/

Guest guest
, Hmmm...... I don't know the answer on whether the enzymes can bypass the stomach. I know it's easy to give them through a g-tube. In fact, I think Rhonda posted about this earlier today. But, am not sure if enzymes should be mixing with the food IN the stomach first, before passing along down the line. Not sure on that. I do know that neither Zantac or Prilosec worked for Katera....... but enzymes, plus lowering the ratio slightly, sure did turn things around. What's his ratio? I know he hasn't been on the diet long...... but if he has super high ketones and reflux, I'd suspect he's on a high one. You said his glucose has been high, though..... and as I said, I think cutting calories back a bit might help out there. Kinda depends on his seizure control as to whether you are feeling the need to tweak things and make this work best for him.
